Home

We are back home after spending Christmas with the kids. Ann, Rich and family spent Christmas together in Virginia. Ann arrived Saturday and Rich is flying into Kinross in the Upper on Thursday afternoon. Christmas was fun and it always amazes me to see how the grandchildren are growing. Becca, Sarah, Celeste, Pierce, Terese Rose and Matt are all as tall as me. They are young women and young men. Kyle, Dylan and Miranda are still little but are growing like weeds. It was so good to see all my children and their families. I'm so proud of the way they take care of each other and Mike and Tom help when they need someone to pick up or watch a nephew or niece. They all are my treasure. Rich, Jen, Alida and Kelly are not mine by birth but loved as my own. We are getting older but our life is full. Denny, Jim and Joe and their families won't make it up for New Years due to work but in Michigan that is a miracle itself. Money in the pocket is first. I added some pitures of our celebration and of the ice starting to take over the lakeside. Be safe!

Clear

Today was a clear day. The mountains on the other side of the Bay seemed so close. The water looked a little bluer than the grey of the last few days. We had a light snow and it looked fuzzy on the ground. It always is changing here. You have something new to see all the time. Ann and Rich are digging out of all the snow they had and the girls have no school tomorrow due to the weather. I'm hoping Ann and Rich can stay home also--after all it's so close to Christmas. Have a good night!

Ice Moving In

The sky is cloudy again. The dampness creeps into your bones. It is warmer but a dry cold suits me better. Sandy, Terrie and I went to a sewing class yesterday. We had a real nice time and we made some comfy flannel pants. The ice is starting to move in and pack the shoreline. Snowmobilers are in town but we need more snow. Ann and Rich are getting a lot in Virginia which they don't need. I wish I could change the weather pattern and send it to us. My neighbor, Heidi, had her baby yesterday so now the big storms can hit as soon as everyone gets to where they need to be for the Holidays. Have a good day--enjoy the week-end.

Snowflakes in the Air

The snow is falling. It makes for a fresh clean ground. The ice has a fresh covering and they look like different size pizzas out on the Bay. The snow we had the other day is compacting so it looks like we lost some depth. This fresh new snow will bring us back . The only thing bad is the driving. I'm hoping for snow and then a break so people can make it safely to their family and friends for Christmas. It's that time of year when you think of those who are no longer with us and treasure even more the ones that are. Have a great start of the week.

Cloudy

It is cloudy this morning. The big lake is a steel grey. The slush is building near the shore. We heard the first snowmobiles yesterday and saw the groomer out on the trail. I hope we do not get the freezing rain--more snow would be nice. The round ice had a ruffle of snow around them and looked so pretty. I think the Craft show we had in Paradise was better than the one in Newberry and we are a way smaller town--way to go Paradise! There was a lot of baked goods and some of the people that were here were selling their things in Newberry. I hope they did well. Dennis took me out to eat at Timber Charlies. They have good hamburgers and my sister loves their onion rings. We had fries with ours and you get a bunch of them. Today we are going to be outside for awhile and then Dennis is going to work on getting our new cell phones up and running. Find time to relax. Life is to short and kids are gone before you know it. Hug them while you can.

Deep Freeze

We had five ships out front because of the bad weather-14ft. waves and freezing spray-on the big lake. They were so pretty to see at night with all their lights on, a sky full of stars and a sliver of a moon. They pulled anchor and were out very early this morning to make it where they were going in the good weather that had opened up.
The Spruce grouse was in early this morning to eat. She is brave to be out so early in this 2 degree weather. The birds are gobbling up the suet and seed so I make sure there is plenty especially when it is so cold. The little pine squirrel has made tunnels under the snow so he doesn't have to be out in the cold wind as he goes from the trees to the feeders to the back deck. Smart little guy. I love to watch them and marvel at how they are so able to survive. We are going to Newbery this morning and Sandy and Terrie are going with us. There is a craft show and we also need to pick up some groceries. It should be fun. Busy week-end for everyone since Christmas is sneaking up so quickly upon us. Enjoy!

Winter in Paradise

Well, it is not winter on the calendar yet but it has found us here in Paradise. It should be a good start for the business owners up here for the Christmas holiday. It is just beautiful outside but cold. The birds are flocking to the feeders and the suet cakes are being gobbled up. I love my wood stove and enjoy sitting and watching the flames dance. We will be outside a good part of the day moving snow--at least it isn't wood.

There is a fog moving across the water. The water closer to the shore is like jello that has not quite set. We are supposed to have a lot more snow today. I'm glad to have it since we don't have the traffic and the people aren't phased by 6 to 12 inches. The school very seldom closes and people go on with everyday life. Have a great day--we will

A Little Snow

We got about 4 inches of snow last night. It sure is pretty. The lake is starting to look a little thick at the shoreline. We have the round ice forming and I have never seen this except up here. It sure is different. It is snowing now, good sized flakes gently falling and blanketing the ground. The fire is burning with blue and orange flames--warm house, hot coffee and good comapny make for a perfect Sunday. Enjoy yours!

December

Well, we are into the first week in December. We went out to eat last night with Norm and Sandy at the Bay Mills Casino. We had the buffet--crab legs, prime rib, white fish and ribs--plus all the other good things. It is well worth the money and we had a good time. We had a table in the glass enclosure and it was more quiet and very nice. We saw two coyotes crossing to the lake when we left their house so I called Sandy to let her know as they were going to take their dogs out. I sure wouldn't want poor Mia to be a victim and some coyotes supper. I have not heard of any other dogs missing so people must be watching. I got up at 5:30 to put some wood on the fire and saw a wolf on the side trail. He sure was big. He was at least as big as Alida's dog Ceasar. He looked and me and melted into the trees. I watched for him to come back out but no luck. I'm glad he is shy of people so he can live. It is really special to see a wild animal in it's own environment living like it should. We have the truck in the garage and by tonight the tractor will join it. Dennis got the tree down so it will go up this week. The days are flying by and soon it will be Christmas. Happy children, frazzled parents-Oh what fun! Have a good day!

Craft Show

Today was the craft show in Paradise. It was a lot smaller than last year but the things they had were very nice. There were alot of smiling faces and I think Clare had the best smile of all. She was so happy and was very good. Brenden and Josh colored some pictures and I don't remember if Aaron was there. He is very quiet. Nicholas stayed home with the guys. Jackie, Terrie and Sandy were going up to the Paradise Sewing Center to see what they were doing there. Heidi and I came home. Heidi is due with her 1st baby on the 10th of December. She is doing very well but isn't up to walking for along time. Mark is hoping the snows hold off till after the baby is born. I don't blame him as it's over an hour to the hospital on good roads. Well, we are working on our last pile of wood so out I go to help. Have a good day!

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Happy Thanksgiving ! We are having a gathering at Davisburg and most of the kids will be there. Ann, Rich, Becca, Sarah and Terese Rose will be having Thanksgiving in Virginia. We will miss them but they can't come to everything. It is a long ride for them and we will be so glad to see them at Christmas. The guys will hunt this afternoon and the kids will watch t.v. and play games. We will all be stuffed and be happy we are all well. Health is one of the greatest gifts. Enjoy your day. God bless!

Happy Birthday Norm, Tom and Mark

The end of November comes along with the birthdays of three good men. Norm is my nephew and he is a hard working young man who is making a good life along with Dominique who loves him. He is a much loved brother and son. He has always brought pride and happiness to his parents. We wish him a great year and hope to see him and Dominique soon. Love you both. Tom B. is almost like one of my own. We have known him since he was a little boy and watched him grow into being a man. He is working hard at school and we know he will do well. He is a kind thoughtful young man and is loved by his family. His little nephew finds a protector and friend in him. Have a good year Tom. We think a lot of you. Mark is our neighbor in Paradise. He has been a friend and we admire his way of thinking and how he takes care of his family. He is soon to be a Grandpa and that little one is lucky. We hope the year brings much happiness.

Wood Supply Moved and Finished!

We have been working very hard to get all our wood moved to a permanent place. It was a long process but we are done. We have some wood to cut and stack yet but that can be done any time.
It measures about 50ft long by 6 ft.wide. That's alot of wood.

What track is this?

Got back up to Paradise last night and put out some treats for my little fox. This morning there was another animal track out there and as you can see it was not my little fox. What made this track? I know it is not a bear but it is something big.

Happy Anniversary Ann and Rich!!!

Today is Ann and Rich's Anniversary. They have three beautiful girls, Becca, Sarah and Terese Rose. They moved to Virginia to get better jobs and made a nice home there for their girls. Rich is famous for his Beer and Bacon and we have joined the club. Many of the people who come to visit go home and have that same thing on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Ann and Rich make great things on the grill and Dad and I especially love the crab--huge treat for us. They have worked together and the happy faces of their kids show they are doing a good job. It is hard to raise a family and a loving partner makes it alot easier. We treasure them and are very lucky to have such great kids and grandkids. Have a good year! Love you!!

Happy Anniversary Jim and Kelly!!

Today is Jim and Kellys Anniversary. They are a couple who are working hard together to raise two beautiful kids, Celeste and Dylan. They are busy and it's hard to find time in their day for everything. Jim is on the go from morning to bedtime. Kelly is more a slow but steady person. They love their jobs and families. They are tucked in with my other treasures and make our hearts happy. Have a good year. Be kind to each other and find time for a Mom and Dad date. We all need those and even more when your lives are so busy.

Happy Birthday Kath!!!!

Today is my sisters birthday. She is a kind loving woman who is very dedicated to her husband and family. She is always there to lend a hand and give encouragement. She is like a good wine and improves with age. We treasure her and she is held close to our hearts. Happy Birthday! We hope your year will be peaceful and full of all good things. Love you!!

44 Years!

Today Dennis and I celebrate our 44th wedding anniversary. Seems like a long time but it has passed so quickly. It is comforting to live with someone who knows you so well. You think about going home a different way and for some reason he goes that way without you asking. It seems you get so close that you seem to pick up on thoughts or feelings. We are going down the last roads of our life and I have to say they are the sweeter. You still worry about the kids and grandkids but you have more time to spend just being a couple. Yes, he is the man I married but much better. He has worked hard to give us a good life. He has time now to relax and I'm so happy he wants to spend that time with me. Happy Anniversary Dennis! Lets take a walk.

Busy

Today we want to call in a load of sand to finish up the septic repair and move some more wood to the new stacking area. Yesterday, we finished getting two truck loads of wood from Bill and Jans. We appreciate the wood. It will be used first next year. The picture of the cement blocks are ones we had our old trailer setting on. Dennis placed them so we have a big area close to the house to stack wood. They are working out well and I think it is about forty ft. long and six ft. wide. We can stack a lot of wood on that. Have a good Monday!

Snowflakes

We had a few snowflakes fall overnight. It was enough to see little patches on the grass but it all disappeared after the sun came up. The fishermen were pulling hand held nets full of fish from their big nets yesterday. We love to watch. I can't believe it is Saturday again. The week races by. Enjoy the week-end. Good luck to the hunters and fishermen.

Happy Birthday Maura!

Today is my niece Mauras birthday. She is a pretty, energetic working mom and wife. She is loved by her husband, kids and family. Happy Birthday and have a good year. We wish you all good things. Hugs to you.

Dusting

We had a dusting of new snow overnight. The clouds look heavy and dark grey. It makes you want to get a hot cup of coffee and move closer to the wood stove. The lake looks a cold blue grey and not as inviting as in the warmer months. I think we did have about 3 weeks of that. The fishermen have been setting their nets out in front of our place and we have enjoyed watching them pull in their catch--nice size fish. They are in close as the water has cooled. I admire these guys especially when they set the nets out on the ice. It is scary business with the currents and thin ice on the Bay. I appreciate the fish I buy out here from the local fisherman. Have a good day!

Birthdays and Anniversaries

The snow has gone and it is 33 degrees this morning. Today is packed full of Anniversaries and Birthdays. Happy Anniversary to Jackie and Jeff and Jenna and Chris. They are two couples with growing families. Jenna and Chris have teenagers plus younger ones so their lives are very busy. Five kids to raise in this economy is tough. Working together they are making a safe home for their children to grow. Jackie and Jeff have a much younger family but that doesn't make it any easier. Kids always need something. Jeff is working toward a degree and Jackie is making it easier for him to do that through her encouragement and hard work. Congratulations to all of you--well done! We love you. Today we also have two birthdays. Angie is my niece and a young Mom. She has one son and Angie and her husband Dennis are expecting a new addition in the Spring. She is a sweet gal with a winning smile. Have a good day Angie--I know the coming year will bring a lot of happiness and adventure. We love you. Today is also Jackie and Jeff's oldest child's birthday. Nicholas is 3 today. He is a smart, active little guy who is always on the run exploring, climbing, jumping--yes he does sound like our Dylan. He has big eyes that dance and a great big smile. He is much loved by all. Have a good day all of you. You are special to us and treasured.

Happy Anniversary Norm and Sandy!

Norm and Sandy are celebrating their 38th wedding anniversary today. They are a good example of two people working together for a common goal. They, together, have made a good life for their family and been loving, loyal companions. It is a warm and comforting feeling to go into the next phase of life with your best friend. Have a great year! We love you. You've done well!!

Snow and Rain

We have had a lot of rain and now they are calling for snow and rain this week-end. I guess the cold weather is coming even faster than I wanted. It could also be just a cold spell and then a warm up--who knows. I was wanting a little bit of sun to show off the beautiful colors on our trees. The reds, lime greens, yellows and rust colors are so pretty with the sun shining on them. The trees seem to glow. We are outside when the weather permits and when we go to Norm and Sandys they are doing the same thing. They have done a lot of work on their garage and it looks like new. Norm is finishing the outside wiring and he will be done. Things are getting put away for the winter and the snowbloweres are being tuned up. It seems like we just put them away. The water has been a grey and very cold looking. We still have some ducks around but the geese seem to have moved out for the most part. I do not have as many flocks of birds coming through as they have gotten out of town also. Everything seems to know warm days are coming to an end and winter snows are not to far behind. Have a good day!

Night Visit

Last night I was watching for my little fox and we had a visit from a family of I don't know what. Dennis and I thought they were a coyote family but are not sure. There were two adults and two young ones. Those were the only ones I saw. The parents kept them out of the open and brought them food. They all looked healthy and were very shy of the outside light. The male looked about the size of a Lab and the female a little smaller. It was fun to watch them. I will have to get my camera going. Sometimes I wish I lived in the woods to see more of the wild things around me. Dennis doesn't care to have a dog so I guess these are my substitute. The water is flat this morning and we are hoping for a rain free space of time so the guys can finish up working on Bills trailer. Went to a craft show with Norm and Sandy yesterday and watched big freighters go by and ate at Clyde's on the St. Marys River. We shall see what today brings our way. Enjoy your day!

Saturday, October 3, 2009

Happy Birthday Sarah!!!

Today is Sarah's Sweet Sixteen Birthday. She is a pretty, smart, artistic young woman. She drew my tattoo design for me and I have gotten a lot of compliments on it. I think of her every time I look at it. Ann, Rich, Becca and Terese Rose love her very much as do the rest of us in the family. Sixteen is one of the big birthdays in life. Sarah is one of our family jewels and is tucked into our hearts. Happy Birthday Sarah!! Have a good year and many adventures. Love you!

The Hunter

Jim called last night to tell us he got his deer,a doe, with his bow. I was very happy as he has had no time to practice. He works a lot and there is usually no time for things like shooting his bow. He must have some of my Grandma Burlison's Native American blood. She was a dead shot with a pistol even into old age. I like to think we inherit some of the gifts of those who have gone before us. Venison for the table this winter at Jim and Kellys. Hope the other boys get one too. They all enjoy the hunt if they get a chance to go. Congratulations Jim--good shot.

Happy Birthday Bill, Chris and Luna!

Today is Bills birthday. He is a good man who loves his wife and family. He has tried to make their lives happy. He has worked hard to support a very large family and is much loved by my sister and his kids. Chris is Jenna's husband and he to has worked hard. He is loved and still is doing what he can to make his family's lives safe and give his children a loving home to grow up in. Luna is Mary and Pacos youngest child. She has a gentle way about her and makes you smile. I love her soft, watching eyes and her trusting nature. Happy Birthday to you all. May this year bring you all good things.

Thursday, October 1, 2009

Happy Birthday Luke!

Today is my sisters grandsons birthday. Luke is one of many grandchildren but each is appreciated and loved for the individuals they are. I know he is one of the jewels Kay and Bill treasure. October is here and we were at 30 degrees this morning and it dropped a degree at sunrise. I tried to cover my tomatoes and hope they made it through the night. We are going to Norm and Sandy's to work on fixing Bills trailer before we take it back home. It is a sunny but cool day--perfect to be working outside. There is alot going on this month so I know it will go by in a flash. We try to enjoy each day.

Cool Down

We got a little thunder, lightning and rain last night. I love to sleep when you can hear the rain fall. The Caseville cottage my parents, and then my brother had was great for that. You snuggle down under the covers and listen to the night sounds. It was a special treat to hear the Whippoorwill call. I'm not much for the city or stores but love nature and watching the wild things and sky. It doesn't cost a penny but I get much satisfaction and peace from it. Fall is here and flocks of geese and ducks are moving through. The Hummingbirds are gone and the birds that stay are gobbling up food and getting ready for the long winter. Squirrels and chipmunks are scurrying around stashing seeds. Everything is working toward the long winters nap. It is a busy time of year. Have a good week. Take some time to enjoy life.

Saturday, September 26, 2009

Busy!

We have been busy outside. I honestly would rather be out there than in the house. Yesterday it was cool and a brisk wind kept the bugs at bay. We see trucks of fire wood going up and down the street in front of our place. The whole town seems to be gathering and stacking for our long cold winter. It was not much of a summer so we wait and see what the winter brings. The hotel, motel, gas stations, restaurants and stores are hoping they don't get much snow downstate and the people will trek up here to see us. It is a winter wonderland up here and our trails are beautiful. Well, we are out to move and stack some more wood. The snowman has a fresh coat of paint and is standing ready to measure the snow depth for another year. Seems like it is coming way to fast. Have a great day! The Apple Orchards sound like they would be a fun place to visit--hot donuts and cider. mmmmmmmmmm!

Wednesday, September 23, 2009

Happy Birthday Francisco!!

Today is my niece Marys oldest boy, Francisco birthday. He is a handsome young man. He is very polite, quiet and smart. He speaks with a soft voice and is very likable. He is one of the treasures in his family and much loved. It was also Morgans birthday on Monday--Billys little girl. We wish you both a great year and many happy days. Enjoy life--we all get just one.

Tuesday, September 22, 2009

Fog

The Big Lake is flat. Ships were sounding their fog horns during the night. It is a very lonesome sound. The fog is still holding on. We hope to get the last five cement blocks laid and some wood stacked today. I will be glad when we get those blocks finished as they are very heavy and scare me when they twist on the front of the tractor. We will have the wood closer to the house and it will be easier to get at when the snow is deep. Yesterday was a rainy day so we just relaxed and did little chores. The woods is taking on the Autumn hues and soon will be in it's full glory. Fall is my favorite time of year. The weather is cooler--fires to sit by at night. The leaves are all colors. The pace of life is slowing down. Mother Earth is starting to get sleepy. The keurig coffee pot is calling--love that thing. Have a good day!

Sunday, September 20, 2009

Happy Birthday Canela!!

Today is Canelas birthday. She is a very hard working gal. She is going to college, working and living on her own. We are proud of her. She knows what she has to do and is working to make it happen. She has been a part of our family since Becca and Canela were little girls. She is one of the people we treasure and have a place in our heart for. Have a good year Canela--all the hard work will be worth it. We send hugs and you can always call--we will be listening. Love you!

Thursday, September 17, 2009

Happy Birthday Norm!!

Today is my brother, Norms birthday. He is a generous and caring man. He looks out for me as I do him. He has a loving wife and three great kids-Jackie, Terrie and Norm. Ryan, Jeff and Dominique are also part of the family by marriage and relationship
My brother is very proud of his 5 grandkids. Life is good and I wish him another happy and prosperous year. I love him and am proud of all his accomplishments. We are going over to Norm and Sandys for supper and a birthday celebration. Earlier this morning we have to go pick up our order of wood in Newberry. Wood is my favorite thing as fall is starting to close in. Loading, stacking and then this winter a warm fire makes it all worth it. Have an enjoyable day!

Monday, September 14, 2009

Happy Birthday Caitlyn!

Today is Barney and Ags daughter Caitlyn's birthday. She is a much loved child in the Leddy family. Have a great birthday! The weather has been wonderful. We have been working outside and enjoying being here in this great Upper Michigan. Our neighbors- Jan and Bill-are up for the week. They are working on their property and we are glad they are here. Today is going to be another good day. Norm will be done with the garage painting and we will see the final result. Sandy and Norm had it pretty much finished except for the little bit of trim and it looks great. The garage looks a lot bigger in the lighter color and now it matches the house. They did a lot of work but the end result is the big payoff. Have a good day!

Gathering and Chimney Cleaning

We have had several large groups of geese fly over this morning. It seems they are gathering for a trip to warmer climate. It is amazing how they know where to go when we need a gps to get from one place to another. They must have a built in one. The guys were here to clean the chimney. It makes you feel safer knowing it has been checked, cleaned and given the o.k. for another year of house warming. The day is another winner and after the senior dinner we have some fun things to do. Kids are back in school and parents are gearing for the homework help and trying to get the kids in bed at a reasonable hour. Oh, I don't miss that. Good Luck to all on the new school year. Do your best! It's your future your working for.

Monday, September 7, 2009

Happy Birthday Jenna and Ashley!

Happy Birthday wishes for Jenna and Leo and Kellys little angel Ashley. Jenna is a warm loving young woman who would do anything she could to make your life better. She is much loved by her husband and kids. Ashley is a sweet little girl and soon to be a big sister. We wish a happy year full of good things to both. Today is a repeat of good weather and calm lake. We are going out blueberry picking and then just enjoying a relaxing day. I hope to get a coat on the front of the snowman and the trim. We got the back of him done and it really soaked up the paint as we never covered that area. This has been a very busy week-end. Cars, trucks and campers have been filling the roadways. There were lines of people trying to get in to see the falls--
Crisp Point Lighthouse had a hundred or more visitors and it is way off the beaten path. This has been a great week-end for stores and eating places. Things will quiet down now till the snowmobile season and it is a good time to come up if you like a more quiet atmosphere. Have a good day--we will!

Finally Summer

The leaves are turning and we are finally getting summer weather. I'm putting a coat of paint on the snowman Jim and Kelly made. He needs some TLC this year before braving the winds and snow of winter. It is supposed to be in high 70's today. Dennis is enjoying the sun. We both wish the weather would have been like this when the kids were here. Busy day today but saving sometime for relaxing and enjoying life. Enjoy your day too!

High Water

The water on the Big Lake has gone up. There is a big change from just the Blueberry Festival.

Beautiful!

It was another beautiful sunrise. I can't say what I love most. The night sky in all it's glory--almost full moon, bright twinkling stars or the sunrise with it's Easter egg colors and huge red orange sun. I wait for both as it brings me peace. I wish my kids could be here to see these things with us. It is a wonderful way to end and start your day. Dennis has been working on a new spot to stack our winter wood and I have been busy doing things that need to be done in the yard and house. It is Thursday again and I am amazed how the time is flying. The ducks and geese are starting to gather and they will be leaving for warmer weather. The birds are eating a lot of seed and the squirrels and chipmunks are gathering at a feverish pace. I guess all of us, animal and human, are getting ready for the earths long nap. It is the time of rest, warm fires and good books. It's not that time yet so busy is what we will be. Have a good day! Give a hug and I hope you get one. It's a good thing.

Tuesday, September 1, 2009

Happy Birthday Larry!

Today is Mauras husband Larry's birthday. He is a much loved husband and
father. The weather has taken a turn to the perfect. What a great day. Dennis is out catching some sun and I am enjoying a nice breeze and catching up on things in the house. This is my kind of summer. The rest of the week is supposed to be equally as good. It is fitting for the last holiday of the summer. School will be starting and the fall is on it's way. The time goes so fast so make sure you slow down and enjoy part of it. Have a good afternoon--look to the sky. The stars should put on a show for us this evening. Mars is very bright and the moon is going toward being full. Enjoy!

Beautiful Morning!

The weather has quieted down and the sunrise was beautiful to behold. It was 36 degrees this morning and some places had a light frost. Looks like we will be forced to have a little fire tonight in the stove to keep the dampness from creeping in. We are getting ready to go to Newbury as we did not go this week-end. Dennis worked out in the garage and I worked in the house. The Can Man stopped by to thank us for donating some cans for the kids at the school--didn't expect that. He is a very nice man who loves the kids and found a way to help the school do things for them. It is amazing how much he has done. Hats off to him--he is a great asset to our town. Well, breakfast and then a ride. The week is starting off and I am sure we will enjoy it. Have a good day and say a kind word. It comes back tenfold.

Storm

We have been getting a lot of rain, high winds and lots of waves since last night. It was a great sleeping night. You felt so cozy tucked in bed. Our wind measuring device is broke but I can tell you the wind is kicking. The waves are rolling in and the big lake looks an angry grey. I want to take a ride and see what it looks like at the Point. No working outside today. We are going to Newbury to drop off the trailer for another load of wood and pick up a few things at the grocery store. We want to get at least one more load maybe two before winter. I wonder what that's going to bring? It seems like it is coming fast. Have a good day!!

Success!!!!

This years Blueberry Festival was a great success. All who came had a great time. We had 28 staying with us and 17 who came over to visit and enjoy the water and campfire. The food was excellent. Family and friends were much enjoyed. We had some fireworks for the kids and glowing necklaces so we could keep track of them in the dark. Everyone left for home relaxed but tired. The house is very quiet. Another good summer has passed. Jan was a great help to me and washed dishes while I cooked on Saturday. Ann and Rich made us a delicious barbecue. They did a dry crusted beef tenderlion and two venison roasts. Jim brought the venison and Rich and Ann the beef. It was very, very good. The young kids wanted hotdogs so everyone had a feast. Salmon was smoked in the smoker also. We had a lot of food and it was eaten with gusto. We are so lucky to have this group. We love them very much. My grandkids have gone home to get ready for school. We miss them and are glad they stayed with us. They are all good kids and were a welcome change to our lives. Now, we will start getting reay for winter. The leaves are starting to turn. Have a good day!!!

Blueberry Festival

This week-end is the Blueberry Festival in Paradise. All the kids are headed up. It should be alot of fun and family time. This is usually the start of our Fall weather and some of the leaves are turning. Summer has only shone itself the last two weeks. The Grandkids have been fun and the house has been alive with the noises kids make. It will be so quiet when they leave. Kyle, Dylan and Miranda have done well being away from home. They are young but no tears and have slept well. Terese Rose and Pierce have been a great help and have grown up alot. They have been the peacemakers and kept the little ones entertained. We will be watching for the kids to pull in the driveway and I will feel better when they all arrive safely. Have a good day!!

Happy Birthday Terrie!

Today is Terrie birthday. She is a college student starting her final year on her quest to be a nurse. She is much loved by her parents, husband and three sons. She works hard at her school work and is an outstanding student--she will make a great nurse. She strives for excellence in all she does. Have a good final year Terrie. Your goal is in easy reach. We are proud of you. We all love you.

The Circus!

We just got back from the Circus. It was a lot of fun. Most of the performers were young. It was very entertaining. The kids had fun but everything they sold was very expensive. Pony rides were 4 dollars. A snowcone was 3 dollars. I guess if you added up their expenses it wasn't so bad. I'd go again.

FUN!!

I was having a not so good day. Pain, sore joints yuk!!!! The kids wanted me to go in with them and after a lot of asking I went in. What joy!! The water made me feel light and I had a real feeling of relief. I laughed a lot and enjoyed the kids and the water. I floated and the warm water was a relief from the heat and my joints. The kids playing and laughing lifted my spirits and made me feel free of the things that were a down thing for me. I had a great afternoon and got out of the water ready for a good night and a restfull sleep. I thank God for my grankids and the joy they give me. I remember being a kid and enjoying the little things that make a kid happy and I am one of them again. I get more from them than they get from me. Living and enjoying life---the pleasures we forget but what are so important. Play in the sand, get dirty--be a child!!! Have a good night!!

Happy Birthday Aaron!

Yesterday was Aaron's birthday and I am behind again posting birthday greetings. My sisters granddaughters, Michele and Maggie's birthdays were missed also. Aaron is a happy, energetic boy with a big smile a at times a mischievous glint to the eye. He loves sports and being outdoors. He will be in 1st grade this year and I know he will do very well. Michele and Maggie are loved by their family and along with Aaron are part of the family treasure. We love them all and each is a special gift. Happy Birthday!!!

Old Watch and Stuff

Terese Rose found a real treasure.she found a pocket watch that was made on April 17th, 1888. she found it in the water in front of our place in waist deep water. Pierce and Terese also found many other interesting items.

He is a big help to his parents and looks out for his younger brother and sister. We love him and are very proud of him. He is tucked away in our family treasure chest of jewels.

5 cords done!

Today we finished stacking the 5 cords in the trailer. The kids were great! They are real good workers. It is with a sense of pride they showed their last piece of wood in the large trailer. We are very proud of them. The leaves are starting to turn. This is a bit early but we never really got a summer.

Fun and Work

The kids have had alot of fun and also did alot of work. Pierce worked at a steady pace and the older guys will have to look out for him in a couple of years. That boy can work. Rosie and Kyle lifted the lighter pieces and Dylan tried to find the biggest heavy logs to wrestle to the edge for Grandpa. They stacked a little over three facecords.

Sadness

It is with a heavy heart that I want to say Dennis younger brother passed away. He fought to beat the cancer that invaded his brain but it was not to be. We send our prayers and sympathy to his wife Phylis and children, Stacey and Terrie. Dennis Mom is very sad to lose a child and our hearts go out to her. We enjoyed his visits this past year and will treasure the good memories. We thank Greg for bringing him here and being the great help he was to Mark. You are a very good, loving man and we are so proud of you. Be good to each other and good night.

Out of the Mouth of Babes!

I have my Grandkids up with us and Dylan wants to be just like Kyle Joe. I was trying to let him know that he should be himself and said " Be your own man Dylan" and he looked at me and said " Grandma, I'm just a kid". Dennis and I laughed. How true he was. I just love kids because they are just who they are and we love them. Pierce will be here shortly and Matt is coming up with his Dad. How lucky are we to have the company of such great kids. Terese Rose is the only girl and she is like a little mother. She trys to smooth out the rough spots and make everyone happy. She is a jewel. Have a good night and hug those important to you. We are loving the company we have here and hugs are very important. Sleep well!

What Summer!

This has been a very cool summer. I have loved it because heat and humidity are not my friend. Dennis, on the other hand, thrives on it. I wonder what the fall and winter will bring? We will have extra wood and provisions stored in case of nasty weather. I know if we do all that the winter will be mild. I guess Mother Nature can't please us all so we have to take turns getting what we like. We have been enjoying the family but sad about Dennis brother being ill. You appreciate being able to go outside and enjoy being alive when you see someone so sick. Take some time for yourself and family. Have a good day and say a kind word. Like his brother Greg says"say nice things".

Tuesday, July 14, 2009

Happy Birthday Matt!

Today is my grandson Matt's birthday. He is visiting his Grandparents in Florida and is having a great time. He is the second oldest boy of the grandsons. He is a joy to his parents. He got his motorcycle before he left and loves it. He is a happy, talkative guy. He is confident and being an only child, he is very independent. He will be coming to spend time with us later this month and I can see fishing and day trips to the sites in our future. Have a great day Matt! We love you!

Rain

We finally got some rain last night. We were getting a little dry so it is much welcomed. The Fourth holiday is coming and with backyard campfires and those camping it was needed. Forest fires are scarey and I don't want to go to bed smelling it in the air again. The people who fight them are very brave as a shift in the wind can bring it right to them. I appreciate them. The clouds hid the sunrise this morning. The ducks, birds and squirels were out and about not minding the rain at all. A lot to do today so I best get moving. Do something relaxing. It's Sunday a day of rest.

MOSQUITOES!!!!

Wow, are the mosquitoes out in force. They enjoyed a beautiful sunrise on Whitefish Bay and were waiting for breakfast. Yikes! They were all over the screens. Pita would be upset that we are preventing them from feeding but they can sacrifice their blood not mine. Have a good day and I'm stocking up on repellent. Enjoy!

Happy Fathers Day!!!

Today is a very important day. Fathers are a special part of a childs life. They make the balance in the family. They have to be the bad guy at times and make the kids toe the mark. Kids need a Dad! Dennis has been a very good husband and Father. He loves his kids and raised six of them the best he could. My sons love their children and wives and like their Dad strive to make their kids good adults. My son-in-law comes from a very loving family and is also a good father and husband. We are proud of them all. Congradulations to all Dads. Be strong men and raise strong loving kids. It is a challenge but the effort is more than worth it. You are so IMPORTANT. Have a great day!

Dreary Start

Today is starting out to be cloudy and the threat of rain is in the air. The mosquitos are fierce. Someone reported a moose in our front yard but we didn't get to see it. It was probably driven here by swarms of mosquitoes since this is not a normal place for them to hang out. Mary sent me an article about Paradise-Thank You- and Catherine made me a beautiful necklace. I really liked it Catherine. I got a picture from Anna and it is now on my refridgerator so everyone can see it. Thank you all. Dennis pull a stump that was it the way of something he is doing in the yard. He had a lot of fun getting it out. We will be getting some wood off of our nieghbors property today as long as it doesn't rain. Busy day. Have a good week-end.

Beautiful Morning

It is suposed to be 75 degrees here today. The sunrise was as pretty as a picture. Dennis wants to sit in the sun as the rest of the week is not supposed to be as nice. The mosquitos are out in force. The last few years they haven't been as bad but I'll take the wetter weather and no forest fires. My little fox has his summer coat and comes around nightly to see if there is a snack for him. Well, no wasting daylight--have a great day!

Home!

I love my kids and Grandkids but it is so nice to be home. I am sure they feel the same way, to have their home to themselves again. We all need that space to be ourselves. We all do things differently and that's what makes each family so special. We will be home for awhile and then off for another visit and party. Beccas graduation is coming and that will be a lot of fun for all of us. I will getting my first tattoe at 62 and I can hardly wait. There will be at least 7 or 8 of us getting the same one for Beccas graduation. What a great time we will have--Strength is what we have as a family and that is what the tat will signify. Togethar we can go through anything. Have a good night! I will sleep well in my own bed.

Middle of June

Kids are out of school--Becca Sarah and Terese Rose still have this week to go in Virginia. It has been cool and doesn't seem like summer yet. Becca will graduate this week and start on a new chapter in her life. Time passes so quickly and the older you get the faster it goes. Dennis and I have enjoyed many summers and hope to have some of the grandkids stay with us this one. They are a joy and we can have time to get to know them. I have some things I would like to do with them--sand dunes, Picture Rocks Park etc. Have a good week-end.

Happy Birthday Joe!

Today is our son Joes birthday. He was the baby of the family till Mike came along when he was eight years old--Tom followed three years later. He had 3 older siblings that broke the way so he was a happy, easy going kid. He still is and his son Kyle Joe is just like him. He loves his family and has found a love for the outdoors and the animals. Feed plots, chickens and a garden take up his free time. He is a good man and is tucked into our treasure box with our other kids and grandkids. We love you Joe!

Wednesday, June 3, 2009

Happy Birthday Jim!!!

Today is my son Jims birthday. He turned from an active rough and tumble boy to a hard working non stop man. He has his dads mechanical ability and loves his family. He takes the time to do things with Dylan as he is an active boy and needs to be kept busy. Celeste is coming to the age that young men better treat her with respect or they will have a very watchful dad to deal with. He does the best he can and is a man you can count on--rough exterior but a heart of gold. Happy Birthday Jim!! We love you.

June

Today is the second of June. We had a frost last night and it is only 32 degrees now. Kate and Bill came up to open up their place for the summer. Did I say summer? The weather might be cooler but the people up here are loving it as they can go out in the woods and fish and not have to donate blood to the black flies and mosquitos. I still have my tomatoes in the house--they really need to be planted. Maybe Norm and Dennis can make Sandy and I a cold frame. Yesterday was Kellys birthday and today is Mary and Paco's anniversary. Young Norm and Dominique are vacationing in the Virgin Islands. He says it is very nice. Happy Anniversary Mary and Paco! We wish you many more. Enjoy the day! Think good thoughts and say nice things--you'll feel better and be happier.

She is a delight to her parents and her brothers watch out for her. We all love her. She is only 3 but acts much older. She might be the baby of the family but she knows how to get her way. Happy Birthday Miranda!! You are a Jewel!

Yikes!

Well, I did it again. I posted the birthdays a day early. I thought it was the 29th. I want to make sure I don't forget and I still mess up. Sorry for the early post but the wishes are from the heart--just a day early.

Happy Birthday!!

Today is Clares 1st birthday. I just saw her this past week-end and she is growing fast. She is a real cutie. She is a little shy but once she gets used to seeing you, you are given big smiles. She is much loved by her parents and family. I missed Jodys birthday--sorry, hers was May 24th. She is my niece and I'm very proud of all her accomplishments. You are a jewel in your parents treasure. Today is also Bridgets husband Bens birthday. He works hard and takes good care of his family. He is helpful to all around him and is loved. It is a special day and we are so glad these people are in our family. Have a great day! Jackie, hug that little one for me and Nick too!!

Start of Summer?

It is still cool up here and my plants are still in the house to protect them from frost. I got a picture of the fishing boat going out this morning to check his nets. I also have a picture of the deer Charlie gave me to put on the wall. I really like it--he is a beautiful deer.
