Merry Christmas!

Ths post is late but I hope everyone had a great Christmas. It was fun to listen to the grandkids tell about their gifts and watch some of them open them. It is a family time and I miss those who are not here with us most on this day. Tears fall from the loss but also for the joy of having all that are here. The kids got us a DLC Covert ll camera that will take pictures of my animals even in the dark. You can also do movie clips. I am very anxious to see what we will get pictures of. Dennis is setting it up today. Rich went out last night to the garage and said something was out there and it didn't run away when he came out. I wonder what it was? We might get a peek at it tonight. Ann made me a shawl out of very soft wool and I love it. It keeps me warm and I can feel like I get a hug from her everytime I wear it. Alida and Joe got me a pair of earrings that I really like and Terese Rose got her Grandpa the best hat ever. Wine was shared, good food and good company was the thing of the day. We thank everyone for all the nice gifts and most of all for them--you are our greatest treasure. Have a good day!

Ready

Norm and Sandy came over and helped us get the four-wheeler loaded on the truck. It was nice to visit with them and the help was greatly appreciated. It was cold, blowing snow and we had 2 to 3 ft drifts in the drive. We did not get a lot of snow but the wind made it seem like a foot. Tomarrow will be better I hope. Have a good night. Sweet dreams!

Slow Day

Today was not very productive. I got my Christmas tree up but was hampered by a bad cut on my finger. We went to supper with Sandy and Norm. We had a nice time and enjoyed their company. The place was fairly busy with the local people out for fish dinner. Got back and put away more things I took out when I decorated the tree. We have much to do and little time to get it done. Have a good night and dream pleasant dreams,

Good Day

It has been another cold day. We got a very nice gift from Richs parents. We got a gift box of very large apples, pears and assorted candy and nuts. It was nice to see fresh fruit on a snowy cold day. We enjoyed some of them for supper. Jeret dropped off the snowblower for the tractor today and now Dennis just has to try and fit it to our tractor and try it out. Sounds easy but it is very cold. He is determine to get it done but we are running out of time for this week. Have a good night!

Cold

It's been very cold. Snow has been falling but only 2 to 3 inches a day. You can hear snowmobiles most of the day but most are local. People are hoping this Christmas vacation coming will bring some much needed income to our area. It is pretty to look out on the lake and see ice floes of different sizes. The water is a beautiful blue and the white ice shows up and makes a nice scene. They are suppose to be getting a big snowstorm downstate--wish it was us! I guess we will wait and see what tomarrow brings. Good Night from us !

White Out!

Wow! Snow was being blown everywhere. We did not get much snow but the snow we did get was being blown back into the air. White outs were the thing of the day. Ships are parked out front and we just saw anothers light coming in. Nasty weather! Oh, did I mention Terrie had class today? She has the worst luck, the weather seems to throw everything it has at her when she needs to get to class. Well, I think Dennis and I are lucky she is done with school shortly and we will have a good trip downstate. We spent the day purging files and throwing away a lot of STUFF. I have to work tomarrow so I will have a glass of good Virginia wine and turn in for the night. Sweet dreams!

Gone back home

The guys went back home today. They say they will be back in a month. It is so nice to have them come here. We had a good time and it made Dennis very happy. The weather STINKS!!!! Rain, snow and everything in between. It could be an ice rink on the roads in the morning. I hope people can get where they have to be safely. Have a good night!

Help

We got about 4 inches of snow last night. Greg and Mark took turns using the tractor and snowblower to clear the yard. Dennis really appreciated the help. His back was sore and he enjoyed the rest. Mark and Greg treated us to supper at Siver Creek Pub---good food. We stopped by Norm and Sandys on the way home so they could see their place. We had a good day and really enjoyed their company.

On the Way

Mark and Greg should be here by 8 p.m. We are very happy to have them coming up here. Mark wanted a fish dinner when he got here but I don"t think that a place is open for it this late. They are close now Huraah!!

Ready for the cold

It was a very nice day. We got a dusting of snow and it has been falling most of the afternoon. Big,fluffy flakes are so pretty to watch. It is supposed to drop like a rock tonight so we got a good supply of wood in the house and some on the porch. The big lake is starting to freeze out further each day. A warm front is coming in after this freeze so we will have to see what that brings. Norm and Sandy came over for a visit last night and their company is much enjoyed. We talked about Christmas and our familys--what else do parents talk about. Kids, no matter what age are a source of pride and worry. Thomas got A's on the finals he took yesterday and we are very proud of him. I find alot to be proud about with all my kids and grandkids. Norm and Sandy, Kay and Bill feel the same way. Have a good night!

The Brothers are coming!

The guys will be here sometime friday. Dennis is so pleased they are coming and I am looking forward to have some men to cook for. It will be a great weekend. Mark says they are bringing up a snowmobile amd Dennis hopes our old Citation can follow the newer one of Marks. We can hardly wait for Friday. This is great for Dennis as he has not had the pleasure of spending a lot of time with his brothers. Have a good night!

Middle of the week

Good Morning! We are half way through another week. They seem to fly by. The new year is fast approaching. Everything has been pretty quiet. No bands of snowmobilers humming away during the night. It is so quiet--even during the day. We didn't get much of any snow out of the last blast--they got hit downstate which is not good for us. No one is going to travel up here when they can snowmobile closer. One thing we have is the pure beauty of trails that are wide and well taken care of. Every turn gives you another glimps at natures wonders. I hope people come visit if they can. Dennis brothers might be up this week-end. He has to call them back and see when they are coming. It was so nice for Dennis to be with them. They can't believe the snow we have. If they come, we are looking forward to laughter and good company. Have a good day!

Dreary day

It is cloudy, windy and damp. This is not my kind of weather. I'd prefer very cold dry air to this but you take what you get. We are having a resting day. There are things we need to do that don't call for a lot of physical labor so today those things are getting done. The waves are rolling in and my ice volcano is spouting freezing spray. They are fun to watch. Enjoy the day!

Good Day

Today was a very good day. We finished cleaning up the snow. We are ready for the next dump. Dennis got the two old snowmobiles running and is putting them up for sale. We have two sleds he is going to sell also. We went for a short ride and stopped by to talk to Jeret--He built our house. It did not seem to cold outside and we spent the better part of the day putzing around in the garage. We are talking about putting a wood stove in there. I would like to use the old potbelly stove that my Dad had in Caseville. Dennis thinks he can mend it. It is a great old stove and brings back many happy memorys. Caseville brings pleasant memorys to many in our family. My Dad and Mom built it and after they weren't using it my brother bought it and generously let us go up there with our kids. Many a beach party and fireside chats were enjoyed by both familys and kids. We think about those days and wish they were back. Good night and sweet dreams!

Deep Freeze

It is chilly this morning--9 degrees. I have to go out and clear my feeders. It snowed off and on and the feeders are blocked with snow. I don't know what Dennis has planned to do today but I would like him to fix a little Christmas tree for me if he has time. He is always busy doing something and the day goes by before we know it. It gets real quiet when it gets this cold. The little birds hide and wait in the hope it will get warmer. I haven't seen my little fox in two days and hope he didn't fall into a trappers catch. He might be holed up due to the weather. We have to make a trip to the Soo but will watch the weather and go on good roads. Have a good day!

Home

Norm and Sandy are safely back home. The snow fell off and on all day. We got heavy, blowing snow for awhile. It was whiteout at times. The wind is still blowing at a good pace. We lost power for about an hour. I was very happy they made it and are enjoying a warm fire and their family. We will all have a good night.

Another Day in Paradise

We have settled into the winter days and the extra work it brings. Work is good for you and makes you feel better. I think thats why I like the winter months. I get more exercise and my frame of mind is better. The tractor has been a big help in getting wood and moving a lot of snow. It makes life easier. Dennis is talking about getting that snowblowing attachment for it as it will cut down the hours spent removing the snow. We have to get the four wheeler back downstate for the kids to use. They plow the snow from the drive and is a must for the winter. It is useless up here because of the amount of snow we get. We are under a snow watch but I think it is south of us who will take the brunt of it. Norm and Sandy are on their way back so I will feel better when they are home and safe in the drive. The trails are being groomed and dreams of snowmobilers are in the merchants heads. We are hoping for a good year. They really need it. Enjoy the week-end--relax and spend some family time. Those kids will be gone before you know it.

Oh Yes!!!!

Dennis and I have spent the whole day outside. We have cleared, shoveled and pushed a lot of snow. I don't know how much time it would have taken us if we would have recieved the 2 ft. of snow that would have been possible. It was cold but as long as you had dry gloves it was great! The lake was a beautiful shade of blue. The ice pack on the shore is building and the eagles are flying over checking them out. We had a very good day and now are enjoying the warmth from the fire. A glass of Virginia wine and we are set for the night. Hug the ones close to you as Dennis is the one I will be hugging. Sleep well, and may the night bring you pleasant dreams. Good Night from us at Camp Runamuck!!!

Beautiful!

It is 6 degrees and the great outdoors is covered in a heavy layer of snow. I wish I could get my camera to put pictures on the site but I can't get them to the blog for some reason. I haven't been out yet to tell how much snow has actually fallen. It was a losing battle last night to clear the drive as it was falling at a very heavy rate. The wind was blowing and you had a hard time seeing. I have to get out and clear the feeders and put out some corn and old bread for the wild things. The crows are squawking for a hand out and the little red squirels are scolding because of my neglect. Dennis is looking into buying a 5 ft. snowblower to go on his tractor. It would be nice and if it would work the price is not bad. We will see. I have to get coffee on. Dennis likes a cup as soon as his feet hit the ground. Have a good start to your day!

Thursday, December 4, 2008

Wow!

We just came back from the township meeting which lasted 2 and a half hours--we got outside and over 6 inches of snow had fallen. It is coming down at a good pace. Dennis and I are now alternates on the Board of Review. They needed some extra people and we are it. Dennis is out moving the snow so I had better get out and help. Have a good night.

Still Snowing!

We are still getting snow but it is very fine. It is sifting through the pines and is adding up but not like those big flakes. We went out today and got some prices for renting snowmobiles. The kids might be up after Christmas and it would be fun to have a couple for a day. It is pricey but when you figure how much they are to buy and how long you store them I guess it is not so bad. It would be great if we kept this snow and got some more. It seems like we get a good start then a warm front comes in and we lose it for the Christmas break when the town needs it. We have been getting our beef from the Paradise Market. It has been great. We order and he grinds the hamburg fresh--The roasts I have been getting have been very good also. The neighbor has been getting his steaks and has nothing but good to say about them. I usually get my beef from Steve downstate but this has worked out good for us. Steve has a very good quality beef and his chickens, pork and turkey are blue ribbon. The problem is having the money to buy when we go down to Davisburg. Steve is a good friend and a very good grower of anything in the meat department. Paradise Market has very good quality meat also. It gives us quality and an easy purchase. Have a good afternoon--we will be watching the weather. Terrie, I hope the weather co-operaters when you have to go to class.

Where is it !!!!!

Here we go again. Another Advisery and no snow. We got about half inch over night and 3 inches yesterday. It is snowing now but will have to really kick in to get the amounts promised. This is all Terries fault because she does not have to go to school till Monday. I know if she had to hit the roads we would have been buried! Thanks a lot Terrie!! I guess we wait and watch. Joe called last night and my friend Ceasar was put to sleep. He was a great dog and I will miss him. He was my buddy and just loved to come up here and run the beach. He'd chase the waves and walk with me. I always felt safe because he would protect me from any animal that would dare to step in my way. Rest well friend, I'll meet you down the road.

Still falling

Snow is still falling and a steady pace. It is a wet snow so it is packing down. We are having a little freezing rain mixed in so it is hard to tell how much has really fallen. Dennis and I have been out all day and I came in to get a fresh pair of gloves and will go out and work till dark. Oh gee, I have to be outside! I love it and so does Dennis. We are made for this envirement. We both love to be outside and work in the weather we are presented with. I think we were born to late. I guess the Great Grandmother genes are in my blood and Dennis has some survival genes in his background. I love the U.P and so does he. We can't wait to see what tomarrow will bring. Post later. Have a good afternoon---we will! LOVE IT !

Falling

Snow is falling at a steady pace. Nothing major. The snow is supposed to pick up as the day goes on. Terrie should get back from class before any bad weather hits--I hope so. We are going to be outside most of the day--Hurrah! Will post later. Have a good day--SMILE and LAUGH--you will feel better!

Lake Effect Snow Watch!

We are under a lake effect snow watch till Friday. Let's see what time will bring. The snow is falling now and the wind is picking up. We have the wood piled up in the house and we are ready for whatever the weather brings. Tomarrow will tell the tale. Good Night from us!

Happy Birthday Sheila!

Today is my niece, Sheila's Birthday. She is a hard working young woman who loves and takes excellant care of her daughter. We are proud of her and wish her the best of things this coming year.

SNOW!!

We have between one and a half to two ft of snow on the ground. It is a real wonderland. We were outside snowplowing and shoveling from 10:30 till 4 p.m. It was a lot of fun since it was not cold and the snow was light and fluffy.
Dennis and I enjoy the outdoors and we had a very good day. The snow has tappered off but we have another front coming in. I have to work at the senior dinner tomarrow and then we will continue freeing the woodpiles and getting the trailers moved and free of snow. It is not work when we can be together and enjoy the great outdoors. It is not like we have a time schedule. We do things as we can. Have a good night! Hugs to all from us at Camp Runamuck.

Heavy

Got to moving the snow yesterday and it was HEAVY. We usually have a light fluffy snow but I think this stuff had a lead base--it probably came from China. We went to the Christmas craft show. They had a lot of nice things--the prices were very reasonable. I especially liked the wood crafts. The dump was also on our to do list as we hadn't gone in almost a month and a half. The car was finished being unloaded and things put away. We are working outside again today--we would rather be out there than stuck in the house. Norm and Sandy are taking a ride downstate so we visited with them for awhile yesterday. I miss seeing them. Coffee is calling so have a good day! Give a hug or a kind word and it will come back 10 fold. You can make or break someone elses day. What power!

Home Again

We are back! We had a very nice Thanksgiving and it was great to see all the kids. Ann, Rich, Becca, Sara and Terese Rose couldn't make it but they will try to be here for Christmas. It is very hard when you live so far away from home to get to all the Holidays. They come to more than anyone could expect. It would be fun to go to their place once and have a Holiday. I love to see everyone but Dad and I really love to be up here. The best thing would be to have all the kids here. Some would like it but some would be bored to death. Jim came back from hunting in time to have Thanksgiving with the family. Kellys Grandma was happy Grandpa was home. They had a good time and Jim found a spot that he wants to build a cabin on. We will check in out in the early summer. It is about 90 minutes from our place. It is wild and very secluded. I LOVE it!!!!

Thursday, November 27, 2008

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hope everyone enjoys the day and gets home safe. It is a day for family and friends. Best wishes to all--don't eat to much!

Monday, November 24, 2008

Ice Volcano

We have two ice volcanos forming in the slush on the lake. The waves send water shooting through it when they roll in. They are very different. The ice forms in donut shaped circles. I have never seen this anywhere but up here. You can see so many different sights. It is snowing and you can hear it sifting through the pines. We are getting a fresh coat on the ground. The little grouse has been hanging around today--guess she is getting used to us and knows we mean her no harm. We have to get wood on the porch so have a good day.

Ben

Thank you for all your help! You are a important link to the life of Paradise

Done!

The guys got the decorations up. Many thanks to Randy, Ray, Woody, Dennis, Gary, and a guy from Shellldrake construction. I aplogize for not knowing his name. I will post it when I find out what it is because I appreciate his coming to help. Thank everyone for taking time out of your day to get our town ready for the Holidays.

What is Important!

I have asked myself this question. Are the senior persons who come to the dinners in real need of them? I came to realize that I will be one of them shortly. It is not that they really need them to exist but it is the feeling of community that they need. It is belonging to a group and getting together and giving each other the support they need to go on. We need to foster sense of community and help them when they need us. We will all be in this situation at some time. We need to step up and take this task as we will all need someone at sometime in our lives. Paradise, take care of your elderly!! They are what you will be. What do you want for yourselves!

Decorating Paradise!

Dennis and the guys are out putting up the Christmas decorations on the town poles. They wanted them up before Thanksgiving and have a nice day to do it. Norm came over this morning and I was very glad to see him. Sandy is preparing Thanksgiving dinner at her house. We will be going to Davisburg for the dinner and visiting Dennis Mom and brother. It will be nice to see the Grandkids--Ann and Rich won't be here but the whole family will be togethar for Christmas. I started thawing the turkey today as he is 35lbs. and needs some time to defrost. There should be enough for everyone and I can bring Jim and Ed some to warm up. It is perfect for hunting--not to cold, some snow and no wind. I hope it clears so they can see the stars. They were going to have a bonfire and sit outside. I think they will enjoy just having a change of pace. Have a good day!

Hunting Camp

Today, Dennis and I met the guys at the hunting camp deep in the woods by Cedarville. They had already started setting up camp by the time we got there. They did not go in as far as they planned due to early snow and not wanting to get stuck to far back if a big snow hits. It is very beautiful there. Wild turkeys are everywhere. We saw wolf track, deer, bunny and I think fox. The stars will be unbelievable if the sky clears due to no lights. Grandpa really loves his property and he should because it is truly a wonderful place to have. Jim was so happy to get the trailer out there. They only have 2 to 3 inches on the ground--not like us with 12. We left three happy guys ready to hit the woods in the morning. Good Luck to them.

Slush

It is a dreary looking morning and a heavy cloud bank is promising more snow. We have a blanket of slush about 25ft from the water edge. The water looks like setting jello. Jim and his hunting fellows are on their way up. The weather is supposed to warm a little which will make sitting in the woods a little more comfortable. We are hoping they have some luck and bag a buck. Jeff has never been hunting so we will see how he likes it. Grandpa says this might be his last hunt but by next year he will have another time to decide if he wants to go or not. It is hard to give up doing the things we like to do. I think he will go as long as he can walk. He appreciates Jim taking him and Jim enjoys his company. We are going over to help set up camp. Have a good day! We are going to be off soon for another adventure.

Ahead of Time

Norm has had the ice building in front of their place for several days. We got up this morning to a two ft. build up of snow and ice at the waterline in front of ours. This is early for us. The snow has been falling off and on all day but the 6 inches they were forcasting hasn't materialized. A lot of the areas are closed to snowmobiles till after hunting season so we don't need snow till after then. The snow dances will start and there will be prayers for a good snowmobile season. Christmas music has started to be played. I guess people need some cheer in this down and out state. Have a great day!

Thursday, November 20, 2008

Still Coming

The snow is still falling today. We are under snow watch till 7 p.m. Friday. We got another 2 inches over night and we are getting snow off and on right now. I went to help out at the Senior lunch today and had a good time--met a lot of very nice people. I think I will go and help when I can. We are watching the weather to see what kind of snow we get--snowblower is ready!

Wednesday, November 19, 2008

12 inches!

We are recording 12 inches on the flat at Paradise on Whitefish Pt. Rd. It is still snowing and I think we will get at least another 3 inches or more by daybreak. It is just beautiful outside. What a great start for winter.

They are Back!

Dennis and Ryan are back. The roads were bad and Dad was glad Ryan was with him instead of me because Ryan drove and spelled him and I wouldn't have been able to do that. We have about 8 inches on the ground and it is still snowing. Gee, I just love global warming--sure it isn't an iceage? Dad said Ryan was good company and that made the trip better. Have to get the fire going. Have a good night!

Coming Back

Dennis called and they are on their way back. He said it is not as bad there as here. I am relieved to hear that and will be very happy to see them pull in. It will be slow going at times so I don't have any idea when they will be home. Slow and sure wins the race. It is still snowing and blowing here. The two other boys will be home in a little while so Josh will have company. He has been very good.

Oh Worrys !

Dennis and Ryan left at 8:30 this morning for a 200 plus mile trip, one way, to get the town decorations. The snow is falling , the wind is blowing and the roads are nasty. I have heard of a coulpe of rollovers and am getting concerned. Dennis is a good driver but I worry about the drivers around him. They are pulling a trailer and that makes it a little harder. The Jamadots guy said it was supposed to get worse after 12 noon--I hope he is wrong. I will feel a lot better when they are back. Watching the clock and the weather!!

Tuesday, November 18, 2008

Heat!

Dennis is very happy to have the little heater going in the garage. He can work out there and not freeze. The torpedo heater was to smelly but it did give off heat when you needed to work on something. The snow is gently falling and the birds are coming in for the suet and sunflower seeds. The little red squirrel chases the grouse away from the corn--he is a mean little bugger. We have seen the eagle, every morning, flying by toward Norm and Sandys. They should be home soon. It is nice to have family up here but it makes you miss your kids more when you see theirs. Today, we will finish getting the antenna up. It is a multi-use antenna so we can use it on the scanner, marine radio and one other radio Dennis has. We seldom listen the radio and the tv is on for only a couple of hours at night. I like the scanner because it lets me know what is going on around me. Have a good day--why have a bad one!

Monday, November 17, 2008

Looks Like Winter!!

Snow! Snow! Snow! It has been snowing off and on since yesterday. I hope it snows itself out so when we make the trip to get the town decorations it will be half way decent. It is very pretty but we don't really need it till Christmas. Dennis is hooking up a small propane heater in the garage. We still didn't turn the water off out there so I guess that is todays project. The water looks cold and grey--not very inviting. We dug out all our winter clothes this morning. They take up so much space. It always seems like there is so much more room when they are put away. The long winter months are upon us so we will dig in and enjoy them. Have a good day--Jim will be coming up soon. He will need a week without a lot of snow for hunting. We will see.

I KNOW!

Yesterday, I recieved a birthday card from Dennis Mom. I would not have appreciated it as much now as I would have before as now I really know what she thinks. It was thanking me for loving her son, who means so much to her and knowing I will take care of him even though she is not here. What a good feeling that is for me. She is trusting me with the care of a loved child. I guess that is what every Mother wants for her child. We want them to find someone who loves them and cares for them. A child,no matter how old they are, are very precious and we want to protect them. Thanks Mom for your trust. I will guard and protect your precious child. He is my treasure.

Winter Wonderland!

It is just beautiful outside. Huge white flakes are falling and the effect is very pretty to watch. The fire is burning and giving off a warmth that can be felt to the bone. We are having a relaxing day today. Dennis is going to try and get up the new antenna we bought when we went out to Ann and Richs. We don't rush to get things done--you have to think about it and plan---Sure. We are going to Buckley, a town south of Traverse City, to get the decorations for the town of Paradise on Wednesday. Ryan has agreed to go with us on this trip--hope the roads are good. He does a lot of things for the town and is always willing to help. We have never gone before so it will be an adventure. Once we get the decorations here there is another group that will get together and get them up. Everyone helps. I guess people are getting the Christmas Spirit even though times are tough. Have a good day and take some time to relax and do something for yourself--you deserve it.

Opening Day!

I imagine some of my kids are out hunting this morning. Good Luck! Deer meat is excellant eating. Jim will be up here with Kellys Grandpa for a week and we hope they get one also. Jeff Abraham is coming up--he is Jims long time friend. I love to see the deer but to many make for car accidents and unhappiness. Our deer population is far from as many downstate. I hope everyone has a good time and gets home safe. Dust off the cards and after a long day hunting, enjoy your favorite beverage. Watching the buck poles here in Camp Runamuck area! Enjoy!

The cat and the wolf

Last night we watched something amazing. A black and white cat came over to eat the scraps I put out for the fox. It was the end bones and the skin of a chicken. The cat is pretty good sized and is a male. He was eating and I saw two large shadows on the edge of the woods. The cat bushed up but did not run. He held his ground and the wolf never came out of the shadows. I think if it would have run it would have bought the farm. It finished the few pieces left and never turning it's back, walked into the woodpile which the wolf was to big to think about even getting into. The little fox came by later but ran when the scent of the wolf hit his delicate nose. The wolves were very pretty and had thick coats. They were big and moved very catiously. They don't like to come into the light or out into the open. This is the first time I've seen them this year. The coyotes are around most of the year and are a mangy looking bunch. You can tell the difference between them. I have to get a stealth cam like Joe has so I can get pictures. It is very foggy and 42 degrees this morning. The dampness goes to the bone. Have a good day.

Veterans Day and my Birthday!

It is a cloudy day. We thank and remember all those who served to protect us and our way of life. God bless you all! Today is also my birthday. I went to Norm and Sandys last night for a very good supper and was surprised by a gift of winter crocks. They are so comfortable on my feet. The kids were talkative and wanted to show and tell about their toys and outfits. I miss my grandkids even more when I see Sandys. Terrie ordered my crocks on line and they were a perfect fit. Ryan and Dennis talked about hunting and men stuff--Norm was misses as he is still downstate. I got to the Point for the ceremony there and I really enjoyed it. So many ships have been lost on these waters and the men with them. They had a Native American Spiritual Leader there who spoke a prayer in his native language. I am so glad that the children are learning to speak so the language isn't lost. He was a very impressive man. The kids have been calling and I enjoy hearing their voices. Ann sent me a wallet to match the purse she got me and now I am organized--a first for me. I am thankful for the years I have had and God willing I will celebrate more of them. My gifts in my life have been a Mom and Dad who raised me, a husband, who loves me even when I'm not to lovable and my kids, who I treasure. The grandchildren and the rest of the family group are an added bonus. How blessed am I.

Winter Wonderland

Well, I said I would believe it when I saw it and I did. It is a winter wonderland here. We got at least 8 inches of snow and I believe we got more than that but for awhile it was melting on contact. It wiped the smile right off the snowman. We have at least 6 inches reading on the snowstick. Snow is coming off the roof in loud swooshing sheets. The birds and animals are in looking for food. Didn't I just say I haven't seen many ships--They are parked right in front and at times are hidden by fog or snow. They can look very spooky peeking out of the haze like ghost ships. They are there big as life and then gone. The snow is very heavy and is not the usual kind for this area. Our snow tends to be very light and fluffy--this is wet and dense. We are supposed to get more today so we will see what happens. Sandy invited us over for supper. It will be fun to be around the kids and enjoy good company. Dennis is taking me to the Edmund Fitzgerald ceremony tonight. I have never gone and am looking forward to it. Have a good day!

Snow Storm!

We are under a SNOW watch. They say we could get 8 inches by 11 a.m. tomarrow. I'll believe it when I see it. The ground is to warm--I think--to stick. Watch and wait. The Snowman is on guard and the snowstick is ready!

Snow

Snow

Snow has been falling since about 1 a.m. It is like powdered sugar just giving a coat to the trees and grasses. The ground is not froze yet so a lot of it melted on contact. The birds are more interested in the feeders and the grouse came in to get some corn. The water is grey and has a gentle roll. I have not seen many ships. I always miss them when shipping is stopped for a few couple of months. The fresh snow always makes things seem clean and puts a new dress on the sleeping brown earth. We have some things we want to do outside like go for a walk, put some wood on the porch for tonight and put up a little stretch of snowfence. Dennis thinks a few inconsiderate people will try to go down our steps to the beach toward Spring with their snowmobiles and ruin them so we will block it and remove temptation. Have a good day and enjoy the snowflakes.

Cooler

Yesterday, Dennis and I went to the Soo with Sandy. We shopped all the specials and picked up her snowblower. She drove and we rode shotgun. It was a very nice day even though it was cloudy and sprinkles at times. We really enjoy Sandys company and we talked about our kids and grandkids--who would have thought. Family is big for us and we love to talk about them. Dennis got some ammo for his hunt with Jim, Grandpa and Jeff Abraham. He is looking forward to a good time. I got some new jeans, two shirts and a pair of pants like Ann gave me that are so comfortable. Gee, I'm set for another year. I also got a perm. It was so strange to go to a salon--Ann has done my hair for years and now that she is in another state I have to go to a salon like everyone else. I appreciate her more now that I realize what a gift she was giving me each time she did my hair. The young girl that did my hair was very nice and did her best to give me what I wanted. Her name is Megan and she works for J.C. Penneys in the Soo. I think she did very well. I will go back to her because she really listens to you. Dennis got our shed finished and we will be getting the mowers and the mulcher plus all the gas cans out of the garage before snow. We are doing this by the skin of our teeth. Have a good night. We have a fire in the stove--Steak to go on the grill and look forward to a peaceful night. We wish you the same. Say a kind word to each other--it will come back to you a thousand fold. Love from us at Camp Runamuck!

Happy Anniversary Terrie and Ryan!

10 years! You made it through the rough ones. It is all better from here on. You both have your sights set on a goal and are working toward it. The kids are well taken care of and you take care of each other. This has been a year of marriage milestones for Ann and Rich--20years, Denny and Jen--15years, Joe and Alida--10years, Terrie and Ryan--10 years. Jim and Kelly are closing in on 10 years with 7 under their belt and Jackie and Jeff are running a year behind them with 6. My sisters kids are reaching for milestones also. Jenna and Chris celebrated 17 years--Barney and Annes are almost to the 15 teen mark with 14 this year, Ben and Bridget are at 12 years. Larry and Maura and Paco and Mary are two years away from 10 and Leo and Kelly and Denny and Angie are closing in on 5 years with 3 years celebrated. Wow! what a group--love them all and wish many more for all of us. Have a great day Terrie and Ryan.

Happy Anniversary Rich and Ann!

Today is Ann and Richs 20th anniversary. Time passes so quickly. They are a good team and work hard to make life good for their three girls. They take care of each other and make sure their family feels loved. We love them very much. Have a great year!

Happy Birthday Cici!

Today is my niece Cecillia's birthday. She is the youngest of the crew and very independent. She likes to be her own person and is very cute to boot. We wish her all good things this coming year. It feels like a spring day. The sun is shining and there is a gentle breeze. I haven't seen many ducks and no geese at all. They are on their way to greener pastures. The birds are still not flocking to the feeders--to much natural food. That is good because you don't want them to be totally dependent on you.Time to get out and VOTE--we will spend as much time outside as possible. Have a great day!

Happy Anniversary!

Yesterday was Jim and Kellys Anniversary. They work hard to make their family secure. Jim works long hours and has many plans to try and get ahead in this terrible economy. Celeste and Dylan are loved and taken care of with love and watchfullness. Jim takes Dylan with him when he goes places--Dylan loves an adventure. I'm sorry that I didn't post yesterday--was not thinking to well. Have a good day and love to all who come to this site.

Time change

Well, I guess the time change has messed up mine and Sandys cams as well. Last night the little fox came in to get a few tidbits I put out for him and he grabbed a large piece and was gone about 20 minutes and I see him back with his mate. She is not as brave as him and very cautiously grabs a piece and fads back into the thick trees. It is always amazing how protective the males are. He watches out for her and if there is any sign of trouble he will catch the attention of the source and guide them away from her. I've seen that with the ducks also. You can learn so much by watching. I love the animals. It looks like another good day is coming. Enjoy!

A New Month

November has started sunny and in the 40's. Sara and Charlie are out and about. It is nice to have them here. We only had Terries 3 little ones stop by for Halloween. I'm so glad Ryan and Terrie brought them by. I guess it's to far between houses down here. The kids looked real cute and were happy with the big bags of candy they had gotten. We are going to work outside today and enjoy the weather. Most of the things we have to do before winter are done. We are still hoping the real cold weather will hold off for awhile. The winters can be long up here so we don't want to rush it. Dennis is thinking about getting some wood that is down by the nieghbors property--we will see how far we get. Have a great day and the time change is coming. I always hate the change in that hour. It shouldn't throw me off but it does. Why can't they just leave it where it is?

Happy Birthday and Happy Halloween!!

Happy Birthday to my little sister! You are very special to me and were since the day you were born. You were a chubby sweet baby. There is no one like you and you grew to be a very good woman. Enjoy your special day--I love you and treasure you. Today is also Halloween. It is a fun time of year for old and young alike. The weather is co-operating and it should be a good night for the kids to be out. I will miss seeing the grandkids dressed up but hope they will have some pictures on line of them. It is sunny and feels warm. Watch out for the kids and have a great evening.

Snowman

The Snowman is up for the winter. Jim and Kelly made him for us 3 years ago. I think he is a happy looking fellow. He is still not in the place of honor because of some final work we have to do in the back. He will soon be up front. I wonder how much snow he will gauge for us? I guess it won't be long and we will see what kind of winter we will have. Time to get supper going and have a good glass of wine by the fire at the end of a good day. Enjoy the night!

Trace

Good Morning! We got a trace of snow. I'm not disappointed at all--too early. The sky is dark with heavy clouds. The lake has a lazy roll and the wind is gently rocking the pines. We are planting some little pines today and I hope the sprig of a lilac that I got will grow. I'm tempted to keep it in the house for the winter but I know that all things have a time of rest so I will put it outside where it belongs and hope it will make it through the long winter. I'm putting out cracked corn for the little grouse and the other birds that feed off the ground. I saw a few of the pine groesbeck yesterday and the winter birds are starting to come in to the feeders. Have a good day!

Snowing

It has been snowing off and on all day. The ground is not froze so it isn't sticking. Sandy said Terrie and Ryan heard a pack of coyotes running something this early morning. It gives you goosebumps to hear the wild sounds--it is also exciting. My little fox has been coming around again like he did last year. Once in awhile, we see his mate. They don't hang around all summer but come the cold weather they are back. We might get up to 2 inches of snow tonight but until the morning you just don't know if it will come to pass. Mother Nature is hard to predict. Good night from us.

Anniversarys

Yesterday was Ben and Bridgets Anniversary. I was so busy that I forgot to wish them all the good things. I just have to say that the best years are to come. Today is Tracey and Jerrys first Anniversary and I wish them love and happiness and realize you all have a great part in what happens in your lives. Choose well! Love and best wishes from us!

Going Home

Greg and Mark are going back home today. It has been so nice to have them up here. The three brothers went to the falls yesterday and were a little disappointed that the brewery was closed. That seems to be a problem up here. Things aren't open all the time like the other side of the bridge. Times are tough and a lot of business is just hanging on. I hope the gas stays lower and we have a great year for snowmobiles. The guys bought some beef jerky from Genes store--very good stuff. They are always very pleasant when you go in so we make a point of buying something from them when we go by. The guys want to leave at about 10 so we will see if they make it. It is always hard to leave. Coffee is perking in the old pot and breakfast will be on the stove as soon as I hear feet hit the floor. Have a good day! Enjoy your life!

Winterized!

We met Mark and Greg at Marks place in St. Ignace and got his place ready for the winter. It is a very nice comfortable place. The original part of the cabin is around 40 some years old. It has a real nice stone fireplace and you can see part of the bridge span from the shore in front of the cabin. The wind was really blowing and it was cold. We had a lot of fun working together and Dennis really enjoyed being with his brothers. We got back here at about 9:30 and had a meal of steak and eggs. Mark wanted to treat us to a whitefish dinner and was disappointed that everything was closed. We sat and talked till way past midnight and then everyone crawled into bed. The guys are on the search for beef jerky tomarrow and a trip to the falls. They will probably have to go and have a beer at the brewry and one at the Yukon and the way home. Nice to see smiling faces around the table. Enjoy the coming day!

Ready!

We had a busy day today. We got the wood covered for winter, the septic run topped with more dirt so it won't freeze and we made 30 lbs of hamburger into patties for the freezer. We made 15lbs of it mixed with blue cheese. It makes an excellent burger. Sandy and Josh came over for awhile today. Sandy let me order some coffee for our single cup maker with her order and she got us a very good price. Dennis has to drink decaf now and he was very glad to see her come over with the order. Josh loves the tractor and he went from window to window watching it. Dennis asked if he wanted a ride and I think if his Dad would have been there he would have gone. Dennis brothers are coming tomarrow. Dennis is going to help them close up Marks place. He is very glad they will be here and I am glad to have a group to cook for. I miss the big meals the boys liked to eat--I miss all of them. It will be a good week-end. Good night from Camp Runamuck.

Anniversary

Today is our 42 anniversary. I am very happy to say that I have had a very good, hard working and loving partner all these years. We aren't perfect but love each other knowing the faults we have. Our biggest accomlishment is our kids who we love very much. I hope we can share more years as these are the ones that are not hurried, we are together and just enjoy the days. The leaves are down and the earth is getting ready for the winters nap. We are watching the ducks and birds gather for their flights out to warmer places. The bear has not been around so I guess he is getting sleepy and hanging around where he will den up. This means we will be sitting by the fire, watching the snow pile up and be glad we have each others company for another season. Have a good day this date has been a treasured one for me.

Snowfence

Yesterday, Dennis and I got the snow fence up. It is not so much to block the snow but to detour the few inconsiderate snowmobilers. We had them trying to go between the house and garage and tearing up the neighbors access to the beach. It is amazing how a few stupid people can ruin things for the many. We had just finished when we started to get pelleted with pea sized hail that looked liked little snowballs. The action of those pellets on the water and the rainbows they made were very pretty. It was a cooler night and the wood stove gave a comforting heat. Dennis brothers might be up this week-end and he is anxious to see them. They are coming up to close down Marks place in St. Ignace. Greg is going to come up to help. Today, we are finishing up in the garage---truck needs to be put in at night. We are hoping to get to the stores in Mackinac and St Ignace sometime next week. We want to go when Sandy has time--we enjoy her company. Have a good day and be good to yourself and others.

A ride

Yesterday, we went over to catch a ride with Sandy to the Soo. It is always an all day affair. We don't go often and it is fun to go to the stores, look for bargains and get done as much as we can in that trip. We want to go to St. Ignace and Mackinac City to scout out any buys there. It will be our turn to drive and it will be another fun day. The leaves are past peak but it is still very pretty. We went down Curly Louis Hwy. on the way back and it was like going down a golden corrider with breaks of dark green, deep reds, pale pinks and yellows. The steep hills were glowing and made you wish you could remember the beauty all around you. It is something you try to discribe but always fall short. Today is a day to work outside and get some things done before the real cold sets in. Dennis is working on getting the machines ready for winter storage and the snowblower ready for the long winters work. I have raking and planting my herbs out of their pots and into the ground so hopefully they will grow next year. I'm going to try to bring some in and I hope they will grow in the house. It is a dreary day so we are moving slow. A fire in the stove is a must to keep the dampness from stealing into the bones and joints. Have a good day!

Happy Anniversary and Birthday!

Today is Jackie and Jeffs anniversary. Jenna and Chris are celebrating one also. Nicholas is now 2 and Angie is ---we don't say after 21. Happy Anniversary and Birthday to all of you. You are much loved by your familys and are all very special just because you are you.

Red Wings Lost!

We watched the Red Wings game last night and I really thought they would win. It was a good game. Kate and Bill got here last night. They are here to close up for the winter. We will probably see them today. I heard from Norm last night---It was so good to hear his voice. I miss seeing him. I started a little fire in the stove this morning--37 degrees and the house felt a little damp. The fatwood we get from Plow and Hearth starts a fire with just two little sticks. I love the stuff. It looks like it is going to be a good day. We will be working outside--hurrah--I love to be out! The week-end is coming so I hope the men can get out hunting. Venison tastes great. We have so many downstate but the numbers are low here. To bad we can't transplant some of them. There have been more sightings of cougars all over the states. It would be a real thrill to see one but not to close and personal. When there is no place for the wild things it will be sad. They adapt to living around us---we just have to get people out of the mindset that they have to kill everything. Enjoy the day! It's starting like it or not.

Happy Anniversary!

Today is Norm and Sandys anniversary. You are a good example of how two people working together can make a great life for themselves and their kids. You are a good team. Hope you can have a nice dinner together when Norm gets back from downstate.
We love you both and admire all your accomplishments on this road we all follow in life.

Home

We got back home at 10:30 last night. We were greeted by the sound of wind and rolling waves. The smell of the pines and the forest floor was in the air. We just got the truck and the trailer unloaded when the rain started. It was so relaxing to hear the sound of the rain on the metal roof and the wind and waves joining in to put us to sleep. The down comforter was warm and both of us drifted off to sleep. Today was a busy one--putting things away, going through the mail and then starting to work outside. A warm fire is burning and the end of another day is approaching. This would be perfect if all our kids and grandkids could be here to enjoy it with us. Good night from us.

Getting ready to go Home

We have been visiting for awhile and now we are packing up to go home. It is always nice to see everyone but I miss my bed and home. It is a different life than I had downstate but I treasure the days Dad and I have together. Dad says we are on the short end of the measuring stick now so these days are important. The grandkids are getting bigger and are so smart. I enjoy listening to them and hear about the things they are doing. My kids are so busy making a living and making sure their kids get from activity to activity. They have a very full day and will appreciate when things slow down for them as we do. They are in the best time of their lives---they will realize that later. By the way, Sarah had a birthday on the 3rd of Oct. and I posted it on the 2nd. I was not wanting to forget to post it. I was a day early and didn't notice till I hit the publish post button-----at least I didn't forget. Oh well, I know she will forgive my mistake. Have a good night!

Happy Birthday Sarah!!!

Today is my granddaughter Sarahs birthday. She is a smart, artistic and a very pretty young woman. She is a freshman in high school and had to start a new school this year. We love her very much and will watch her grow to be the good person and adult we know she will be. We love you Sarah! Have a great year.

Happy Birthday Norm!!!

Today is my brothers birthday. When he was little it was my job to look after him when my Mom was at work. Now, Norm looks after me--helping me with my computor and just being there when I need a hand. I am very proud of all his accomplishments and love him just because he is my little brother. Happy Birthday Norm, I'm so glad you are my brother--have a good year!

Wood DONE!

Dennis and I finally got the last of the wood stacked. We are exhausted. It feels real good to have a big job completed. We make a good team. We have all our wood for maybe 3 winters. I'm looking for a hot shower and a soft bed. Hey, we don't have to stack wood when we wake up--Yippee!!!!

The Soo

Today Dennis and I took a ride to the Soo to pay some bills. We had a lot of fun on the way. We went down Curley Lewis and saw many leaves turning. It is a beautiful drive and we saw one car. I hate to think about going downstate and all the traffic. The only thing good is seeing the kids and grandkids. A sailboat got loose from it's mooring and 9 people got in the water and made sure it was anchored in safe waters. Not one of the people was the owner and that is what the people are like in the small town of Paradise. They do not intrude in everyday life but when needed they get togethar and help a fellow person in the community. It is a good place to live and we know if we are in trouble we can count on them and we will also be there when they are in trouble. I love being here and the only thing missing is my kids but at this point in my life Dennis is the one who needs my whole attention and we are being a couple instead of parents which we had never had the chance to be as we started our family so soon. I like all the attention and so does he. Life is an adventure and has differnt times and now the time is for us to enjoy. Don't be to busy to keep the joy of being a couple or when the kids are gone you will be lost. Have a good night . Look at the sky! From Camp Runamuck--Joy!

Stacking!

Dennis and I got 5 facecords of split wood stacked yesterday. We just got done and the skys opened and the rain came. The wind was blowing and the rain pelted the winds. It was a great sleeping night. It looks like rain today but maybe we can get some done in between the showers. We have 10 cords to go. I remember that I am going to be 62 when I do things like this. I think if we did it more we wouldn't pay the price for not exercising more. People in their 80's are doing the same thing and I think they are in much better shape. Shame on us---we will be working on that. I feel much better when I am active. Enjoy the day, rain is a gift to.

Work Day

Yesterday was another blueberry gathering day. Aaron and Josh came with Sandy ,Dennis and I and had a good time. We saw bear track where we were picking and a lot of deer track also. It so much fun to be out in the woods. Today we are stacking wood. We have all our wood ready for this winter but next years has to be put up. It is nice to know you are going to be warm for a couple of years no matter what they jack the price of gas up to. It is looking like rain but I think it is supposed to clear later this morning. It doesn't matter if it rains a little, we were never afraid to get a little wet. I would rather do anything outside than be stuck in the house. Winter will be here and time spent inside will increase a little but even then Dennis and I find things to enjoy in the great outdoors. Time for a cup of coffee. Have a good day! Every day we wake up is a good one.

Blueberry Picking

This morning Sandy and Josh came over and we all went blueberry picking. Josh was a great help. It is surprizing how many berrys he picked for someone so young. I have to say he ate a lot of them also. It was a lot of fun and we did bring home a lot to freeze. We want to go out tomarrow but that depends on the weather. There were berrys everywhere. You didn't have to look for them and the picking went fairly fast. It was good to get into the woods and the back trails were an adventure. I wish my gradkids were here as they would have really enjoyed the day. Have to get to work cleaning and freezing these blue gems. They will taste real good this winter.

Cooling Off

37 degrees this morning! It sure is cooling down. It registered 59 in the house so if this keeps up Dennis is going to have to get a fire started at night. It always warms up after a couple of cool days so we will see what happens. I love the fall. Sweatshirt and jeans weather, the leaves changing, the earths getting ready for a long sleep. The bears have been around and the chipmunks and the squierls have been busy gathering. The hummingbirds are still here but I imagine they will start their long trip out of here soon. I am starting to see some different birds and the ducks are gathering in big groups on the lake. The blueberrys are still out in the woods in great numbers. Dennis was out with Gary checking the gps signs for the snowmobile trails and saw people out gathering buckets of them..I wish my kids could have the time to be up here enjoying this life but they are all so busy trying to keep their familys well fed and living a good life. It takes two parents now busting butt to make a good life for their kids---hope they appreciate the sacrifice! Well, the coffee is done and a slice of toast with wild blueberry jam is calling. Have a great day and do take the time to look at the night sky before you head to bed--it is a beautiful end to a day and for those who work at night--it gives you a thing of beauty to light your way to work.

School starts!

It's back to school for all the kids. We hope everyone makes the most out of it and works towards the goal they set. It is Becca's senior year. It will go by so fast. Bill and Jan our neighbors came over last night and we played the wii sports and wii fit. It was a lot of fun. Dennis is on the wii fit every morning and now I start to try and lose a little. The game makes it fun. The jet ski will be taken off the beach and winterized this week. I guess that makes fall official. Have a good day!

Labor Day Week-end

Well, here we are at the end of summer. The kids go back to school and fall is knocking at the door. We have some color on the maples already. This summer went by so fast. We missed the grandkids but they are getting older and have things they want to do and that is good. The bear was back checking for the feeders so I'm glad I keep taking them in as they are expensive to replace and I don't want the bear to get into trouble by losing his fear of people. He doesn't seem to afraid now but I want him to live a long life. I really enjoy seeing him--anything that is wild. I have always had a special place in my heart for all animals. I appreciate their ability to survive and adapt. Dennis and I are alone this holiday week-end and plan to go to the fish boil at the point with Norm and Sandy. I think I have a date with a fishing pole also. Have a good, safe week-end. Love and good cheer from us at Camp Runamuck!

10 Years!

I did not post an Anniversary wish to Alida and Joe. It was their 10th Anniversary on the 15th of August. They only have to make 40 more to get to their 50th. I know we will never see it but we want them to know that the older you get the sweeter the relationship. It is hard when you have so much going on but take the time for yourselves and remember why you wanted to be together, keep a kind word for each other. A hug or a compliment goes a long way in someones busy life. Make each other feel important, you get it back in a happier spouse. Love you both.

Happy Birthday Terrie!

Today is Terries Birthday. She is a little over the age of 21. I was working at the Blueberry Festival and heard from different people how nice and friendly she was. They could have added a good wife, mom and daughter on to that but then they don't know her that well. Have a great year, you are much loved.

Another Festival Gone.

The Blueberry Festival had a lot more people at it than in years gone by. The venders were happy. They made many sales. Some of the kids in our family couldn't come up and we really missed them. It is not the same without them.
All are gone back home except for Mike Pierce and Sara. They are leaving some time today. The house will be quiet again. Dad and I enjoy watching everyone sit down by the fire, play the wii and other game systems they bring up. Everyone is having fun--laughing, playing tricks on each other and just being together. Dad and I will get busy staking wood and getting the last of the blueberrys of the season. I still haven't been out fishing and want to go. Have a good rest of the week.

Starting to Arrive

The Blueberry Festival week-end has started. Alida, Pierce, Kyle Joe and Miranda arrive last night. This is a fun week-end and is the last hurrah before the summer ends for our family. We look forward to each arrival. Bear was back last night. I didn't hear him but his footprints tell the tale. I'm glad he is coming in the early morning instead of 9:30 at night. Have a good day!

Made their Limit!

We got a call from Ann yesterday. She is in Alaska fishing. It is amazing that we can talk by cell phone from there. They have gotten their limit of fish every day before noon. Their group consists of Ann, Leanna and her Mom and Dad. They are doing better than the men out on charters. They, of course, are not rubbing that fact in. They are going out on a charter for halibut today. They can't go out in a little boat for that type of fish---they go out a long way in the water. I hope their luck holds--halibut are great eating fish.

Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday Aaron! You are a Happy little boy. You are adventurous and have a great imagination. Have a great birthday! We all love you. Yesterday was Michelles birthday and today Maggie shares Aarons special day. They are my sisters grandkids. We all all proud of our grandkids. Aaron is one of my brother and Sass grandkids. Have a good day-everyone.

So there!

I have been having a disagreement with the bear. I took in all the feeders. Have yelled at him, he didn't care and we have set off some firecrackers to scare him away. He isn't afraid and looks at us with a disgusted sneer. I went to bed and in the morning got up to find just what he thought of us. This was left right next to my tomatoes and it looks like something is wetting on my parsley--it is getting brown on the leaves.

Big Bear

The big black bear is back. He has not bothered anything since the weather got warmer and there was more for him to eat but now he is back prowling around the house. He is big and not afraid so beware and don't think you are going to yell and he will leave. I don't like this bear, he could be a BIG problem.

Happy Birthday Pierce!!!

Today is Pierce Griffons Birthday. Pierce is a great kid. He is a big help to his Grandpa and I. He is very smart and is a whiz at the computor games. We enjoy his company. He will be great at whatever he chooses to do. We love you Pierce and look forward to seeing you up here with us. Happy Birthday!

Getting Ready

This week will be a busy one for us. Dennis is going to try to get the jetski fixed for the kids when they come up for the Blueberry festival. They had so much fun last year, he wants to try and have it going for them. We dropped off the big trailer for the wood guy to fill so we will be a year ahead on our wood supply. This year we will just have to stack it unless he gets a truck of logs in. Wood is getting harder to come by at a good price. We know how much work goes into doing it and with the cost of gas they are not making much. It is a very pretty day and so far the heat has been very tolerable for me. Enjoy your day!

Lonesome Sounds

The fog was heavy last night and the lonesome sounds of the passing ship horns pierced the night air. They warned others that may not have the fancy devices for seeing in that type of condition they were there. I love to hear them and really miss the fog horn on the point sounding off like it used to when we first can out here. Some things do not change for the better and that is one of them. The fog is like a blanket on the water and you can hear the sounds of the engines on the ships and many other things you would't normally hear because it causes the sound to carry. Dennis and I enjoy listening to the sounds of the night. It is relaxing and lulls you to sleep. Have a great day!

Happy Belated Birthday Brandon !

Today is the last day of the month and I realized that I had forgot to post a Birthday wish to Brandon. He is my sons friend and I'd like to say ours also. Brandon, we are so glad you started school again. You are very smart and we know you will do well and get the job you want. You are a loyal friend and have a big heart. My sons are lucky to have a friend like you. We wish you a great year!

Happy Birthday Terese Rose!

Happy Birthday Terese Rose!!!! You are a sweet, happy, pretty young lady. You have a great imagination and the ability to act out a part, like being a waiter for your Mom or a telling a story you made up for others to enjoy. You could be an author, an actress or just a person who likes to have a lot of fun and make people laugh. Grandpa and I love your pretty blue eyes and that smiling face. We are proud of you and love you very much. Have a good birthday and we are glad you will be home soon as that is the place you want to be--your Mom and Dad miss you also.

Sunday, July 27, 2008

Happy Birthday Ann!!!!

Happy Birthday Ann! You have brought us much happiness. Dad was so excited when you were born. He wanted a little girl and was very happy when you arrived. You are a very strong person and take good care of your family. We are very proud of all your accomplishments but even more for the type of person you are. Have a great year. We love you very much!

Fishing

Denny,Jim,Celeste,Matt and Dylan came up last night. We stayed up till 2:30 talking. The kids slept a little in the car and were wide awake. They got up and went fishing at Shelldrake Dam. The kids had a great time and were out for a long time. They caught and released a lot of pike. Dylan was casting his line with the big kids. He really enjoyed himself. Matt and Celeste said they were glad they went. Dennis and Jim enjoyed being out also. Dad and the guys are going out in the morning and have a golf outing at 4 P.M. Ryan is going also. Norm and Sandy came over and Norm brought a different computor for me to use as mine was broke. I really appreciate all he does for me---I miss having my cam working and the use of that computor. It was nice to see them and visit. The house is quieting down as we are all starting to get tired. Good Night and pleasant dreams.

Home

Dennis and I are back home. It is a quiet house as my grandkids are not here. I liked it better when my kids were small and I was busy in the kitchen cooking meals the kids liked. We miss the kids and their giggling and fighting. It makes the house alive. Kids are gone before you know it and in this very fast paced world you have little time to enjoy them. Dad and I enjoy each others company. We are on the last third part of our lives and intend to make the most of it together. That will go by in a blink of an eye. Have a great day--we will!

Happy Birthday Kyle Joe!

Kyle is 6 today. He is a happy, smiley little boy who could hardly wait for his birthday. He has been marking the days off on the calender and announcing how many days were left till his special day. Boy, that sure changes as we get older and isn't it to bad. We love you Kyle and hope your birthday is a happy one. You make Grandpa and I smile. You are very smart and will do well.

Hurrah for Kelly!

Kelly called yesterday and YES! she got the job she was hoping for. She was so happy and so are we. Jobs are a vanishing thing in Michigan so when you get one, especially one you really want it is wonderful.

Nothing Good

We are coming to the last days of July and I can say I haven't even enjoyed summer yet. It has been one depressing thing after another and the only happy thing is my grandkids. They are a breath of fresh air. I hope the rest of the month is better for everyone. We will be heading home soon. My sister and Bill are coming up with Jenna and her family so it will be nice visiting with them. The kids won't be coming back with us and we will miss them. They are all growing up and have things they want to do. I can hardly wait to get out of this heat---much cooler at home. Have a good start for the week and good job Ann on finishing the run in 90+ heat. I admire you!

Sadness

Yesterday was a very sad day for us and for people around us. It sometimes seems to overwelm and drag us down to a place we don't want to go. We were very lucky to have our grandchildren with us as they show us life does go on and we have to cherish it. They are a joy. They had a fire and even with the mosquitoes had a great time.

Monday, July 14, 2008

Happy Birthday Mike!

Happy Birthday Mike! Dad and I wish you happiness and a great year. You grew to be a very likeable young man who people tend to trust. You accept people for what they are and tend to not look for the worst. Dad and I are proud of you and love you very much. Find your dreams and work toward them. Love and a warm hug from us. Mom and Dad

The Falls

Here are some pictures we took of the falls.

Trip to the Falls

We had a day without rain so we went to see the falls. They were really roaring. A fine mist was being thrown into the air by the force of the water cascading over the falls. There has not been this much water going over it in awhile. It was very pretty. We had fun.

Happy Birthday Tommy!

Happy Birthday Tommy! You are a kind and generous person. Dad and I love you very much. We wish you the best life can bring. Go out and get the the things you want. It takes hard work but everything is achievable. Love and hugs to you! Mom

Happy Birthday Rich !

Happy Birthday Rich! You are much loved by your wife, kids and family. I appreciate your patience and care you take with all of us. You are a great member of our family. We love you! Today is also Grandma Millers birthday. She is 86 years young today. She drives, shops for bargains and is very independent. I don't think we really appreciate how well she does. I don't know of many 86 year old women who bring sandwiches to her grown sons after bowling so they won't go home after having a beer without eating something. God love her, I hope I can do half as well as she does. Have a great day!

Saturday, July 5, 2008

Happy Birthday Jeff!

Happy Birthday Jeff! You are a loving husband and father. Your wife and children love you very much. We hope you had a great day. We love you and send best wishes. We made it up here with a big load of things from downstate. The grandkids had a long ride but were very good. The last hour was hard for them but they were good even though they were tired of being in the truck. I do not have a video they can watch so the ride was very boring for them. It is nice to be here even though the scenery is not to different except for the lake. We can see the deer and their fawns, beavers, geese and young goslings and so much other wildlife that you think you are out in the deep woods. We actually see more wildlife there than up here on the lake. Have a great night! The kids are already in the refirdge---some things never change. Good night form us!

Glad and Sad

Angie and Denny brought home their baby boy. He weighed in at 6 lbs. 8 ounces. Congradulations to the proud parents. Angie is my niece. The sad news is that my Aunt Dot passed away this morning. She was a gentle soul and we are sad she is gone. I will remember her for her smile and gentle ways. It is the circle of life--one beginning and one ending.

Happy Birthday Dylan!

Today is my grandson Dylans 4th birthday. He is an energetic, happy little boy. He makes life an anventure and is not afraid of most things. He thinks he can do anything he sees his Dad do and can figure out how to work a lot of things I have trouble figuring out. He loves sleeping in the camper with us and is good company. Have a great day Dylan! We love you!

Happy Birthday Matt!!!

Today is my grandson Matts Birthday. He is a very kind and generous young man. He always asks to help if he sees you are busy. Grandpa will miss his help in Paradise this year. He is much loved by his Mom and Dad. We all love him. Happy Birthday Matt! We hope you have a great day.

Saturday!

We have a lot going on today. Becca, Terese Rose and Cole are flying in. We will pick them up at 2:45. We are all excited they are coming. Alidas Mom and Dad came over to watch Kyle play his last baseball game. He was very happy they came. Dad is supposed to go golfing with Denny this afternoon and I would like to get to Walmart and Costco. The weather is not looking good--cloudy, gloomy etc. I guess a day is what you make of it. Have a good one!

Happy Birthday a little late!

I want to wish Alana and Guillermo a Happy Birthday. They both had a birthday on June 25th. Alana was 10 and Guillermo turned 5. I'm sorry to have missed their special day. I hope you had a fun day. Love and hugs sent to you both.

Yes!!

The Supreme Court has upheld our rights to have guns. It is illegal for any state to deny a sane, non felon from having a gun. There are alot of people who do not choose to have them but it is the right of every American who wants them to be able to have one. I guess it still is the home of the free.

Tuesday, June 24, 2008

Happy Birthday Dennis!

Today is my husbands birthday. I wish him the best of years. He has given his family the gifts of a safe place to grow up and the knowledge that they had a person who loved them. He has given me a good life and a loving companion to share the good and bad things that happen in life. I treasure him.

Suns Out!

What is that in the sky--it's the sun. We have had a lot of fog, mist and clouds. Dennis took me to Seney National Wildlife Refuge last week. It was very pretty and while we were there we met some people who were visiting from France. It is amazing how many people come from different countrys to see the beauty of our state. I got a picture of some Trumpeter swans-- they are not a common swan. We also saw some loons and other types of ducks and birds. Loons can live to be in their 30's. I think that is old for a duck. The kids will be up for the summer shortly so the house will be full of laughter, teasing and minor disputes--the house will be alive again! Enjoy the day!

Fruit and Veggie Stand

I am so happy to say we have a fresh fruit and veggie stand in Paradise. He will be here every Wednesday. The produce is top notch. We had fresh asparagus and fresh corn on the cob last night for dinner and it was great. I also bought some fresh picked strawberrys and topped a piece of angelfood cake with them.. There is nothing like good quality produce. I pray he does a good business so he keeps coming back. Hurrah for us, now I will only have to go to shop at the big grocery store every 3 weeks. That really means something when they are 37 to 50 some miles away.

Troll to Yooper

Kate and Bill joined the ranks of Yooper after they shed thier Troll Trappings. They will be here for a few days visiting. Bills friend and his wife are here for a few days and then downstate for their U of D Highschool reunion. It is misty outside and chilly. We have a fire going but have to keep and eye on it as the chimney needs to be cleaned. Dennis has been working on insulating the upstairs in the garage. It would be nice to get some kind of heat in there this winter so he could do his wood working and get his shop set up. He always can find something to do. Enjoy the rest of the day.

New Baby!

It was a happy day on June 14th. It was not only Paco's Birthday but my nephew Barneys little boys birth. Barney and Agnes have 4 beautiful little girls and have added a very handsome little boy to thier family. Congradulations to them all! Jenna's son also had a birthday on the 12th of June. I believe he is now a teenager. He is a very nice young man. It is so nice to report all these happy events. Paco, I hope this young man born on the same day as you will turn out to have the love of family that you do. I know that with a father and mother like Barney and Agnes he will. We have been so fortunate to have such close familys. We have richs beyond money--We have each other!

Happy Fathers Day!

Today is a day dedicated to Fathers. I don't know of any that make a point of telling you how great they are so I will. My husband has worked hard to raise 6 amazing kids. He has given them a safe place to grow, has tried to teach them that truth and love for family can get you through the bad things life throws at you. My Son-in-law is patient and loves his girls very much. He makes them feel important and many words like Cherub, Boss, Bear and Beka are said with much love. My Sons that have familys make us proud that they put thier children first. It is nice to hear the words, sometimes lovingly or in exasperation---Son, Sissy, what were you thinking, all I want you to do it tell the truth, You are grounded! I'm sure they have heard these same things as they were growing up from their Dad. Dads are very important. Kids need them to guide and help them grow up. Moms get the easy job of taking care of them when they are small but it takes a strong Dad and Mom team to get them to be good adults. Dad feels like he did a good job when he looks at his kids. He loves them more than they know. Happy Fathers Day to all the Dads. We love you!

Happy Fathers

Happy Fathers

Weather

It has been very cool up here in Paradise. Today we finaly got our power back after only 10 hours of outage. The people of Cloverland Electric are right on the ball. My son downstate is out of power for 6 days already and no help in sight. I appreciate the Cloverland Electric for their fast and efficient way they get power on line. You have to give credit where credit is due. I am very happy to have them rather than DTE energy helping me. They have always been very fast and effeicient when getting us on line. We Have great respect for them and the people that work for them

Cool

Dennis and I have been enjoying great night sleep and comfortable days. It has been very livable here in Paradise. The mosquitoes have been bad but you can stay inside or work in the garage and not be bothered by them. The lake is my friend as I cannot tolerate high humidity and high temperatures. My kids have had to endure nasty temps and no power. I feel bad for them and hope power comes on soon.

Back

The night was very foggy and rainy. The big bell rang out at 2 a.m. Dennis set a trap so we would know if the bear was here. We went downstairs and there he was looking for morsels to eat. I have a picture of my footprint next to the bears and I have a picture Dennis took of our visitor but it didn't turn out because of the dense fog. It looks like bubbles on the picture.

Love you!

I didn't finish my last entry and somehow posted it before I was finished. We just wanted to let you know we love you Joe. Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday Joe!

Well, rain is in the air. Yes, it's another of my kids Birthday. Happy Birthday Joe! You were a easy going little kid. Kyle Joe reminds me alot of you when you were little. You are a good man and love your kids and wife. Dad and I are very proud of you. We are very lucky to have raised such good and caring kids. You work hard to take care of your family. Enjoy this coming year.

Bugs and Wildlife

The last couple of days have been mosquito and black fly nasty. They both seem to have hatched at the same time. The animals have been suffering because of them also. Yesterday, I had a few visitors. A Indigo Bunting, a racoon and a black squirrel---oh, of coarse the chippy also came to visit.

Tuesday, June 3, 2008

Happy Birthday Jim!

I know it will have to rain sometime today as it does when anything good has happened in my life. It is my good luck sign. You were a very active little boy and still have not been able to just relax for long. You have a great family which you watch over and see to their needs. You have made us proud of the husband and father you have become. We love you Jim! Have a great year, you deserve it.

Daybreak Visitor

Well, Dennis and I woke up at 5 this morning by the sound of the big black bear trying to hoist his ample carcass up on the back deck. We did not put any steps on the small deck and I will tell you right now I don't want any. His arms were well above the deck floor but he was trying to get a foothold to boost himself up. He just looked at me with disgust when I started yelling at him and slowly ambled toward the beach. This bear is not afraid of you and only leaves when he is ready. I thought he had made his way down the road since he has not been here in 8 days but I was very wrong and we will be on the look-out for him from now on. He really made me angry by having the nerve to try and climb on the deck. Will he try to come through the doorwall? Nothing is really stopping him if he does. The 44 will be handy and my best friend. Wish the blueberrys would hurry up and be plentiful! This big guy needs to get back in the woods! Good Morning from us!

Happy Birthday Miranda!

Today is Mirandas Birthday Party. She is our youngest granddaughter and is one of the nine jewels in our family treasure. She has a outgoing personality and wrinkles up her nose and twists us all around her little finger when wanting her way. We love you Miranda! We know even if it rains today, you will bring sun into our lives. Happy Birthday! We will see you soon!

Happy Birthday Baby Clare! You have a lot of people to love you. Congradulations Jackie, Jeff and Nicholas!

Windy and cold!

Did I miss summer and we are back to early November? We will be in the low 30's tonight and 27 tomarrow night. We should hit a balmy 47 degrees during the day. Mr. Gore please tell me when we will get global warming here---we are freezing. The poor bear will never get any food if it doesn't warm up. We will see if he makes a circuit and comes back our way. The trees here are budding and very few are leafed out. Hockey game is on---Go Redwings!!!! Have a good night!

Friday, May 23, 2008

BIG BEAR!!!!!!

A very BIG black bear was just here. I got the hummingbird feeders off the porch. The cold weather is making it hard for them to find food. I hope it will not cause trouble. People will have to be on the look out and watch their kids and small animals. This was a very big guy and the gun will be loaded. Hopefully the temps will go up and natural food will be in the woods. Goodnight from us.

Home!

We are back home. It is not that I don"t like the places I've been but I love it in the upper part of Michigan. We are sitting by the fire and enjoying the sights of our home. We have to get the chimney cleaned so we have to be carefull and not get the fire to high. We came home to Dunkin donuts coffee, a group of webkins kids and a more than gernerous gift from my brother and his wife. We will have to talk about the last thing but it was a real surprise. It is a gift to have a family that cares so much for me. Have a good night and I will sit here and savor the good things I have in my life and the people who make my life richer by them being in it. I wish you all

Good Times!

I remember when-------

Dennis and I took a ride to Caseville today. We went back over all the happy times we had there. I know that many others feel the same way we do about that place. Four generations of us have enjoyed the beach, big rock and the small town. The cottage looks the same. We thought it was the best place in the world. It belonged to our parents and then my brother bought it and was very generous in letting us all use it. Norm and Sandy made many improvements and it kept the come on in-lets all have a good time and enjoy each others company look about it. Yes, the mosquitoes were still out in force.

Happy Mothers Day!

I am one of the lucky ones to have the chance to carry and watch six great kids grow to become good young adults. I'm so proud of each of them. They are my greatest gift. Enjoy the day!

Wood Supply

Well spring has arrived and now we start to gather the winter wood supply for the coming winter. It does seem like a circle of events but the warm heat from the stove sure feels good when the cold winds and snow are here. We are getting the wood in for the Davisburg house first and many hands make the work go fast and it is actually fun. It is the first time Pierce and Kyle have been asked to join in the work and they are doing a great job.

Completed!

Well, the last week is done and Jim, Joe and Mike headed for home yesterday. It was a good week and we are already looking forward to next year. We met many interesting people and had a great time even though it was a work week. Yesterday , we went to the vineyards and tasted some of Virginias great wines. Dennis and I had a good time and wish the time wouldn't pass so fast. We decided to start our trek back on Tuesday.

One week done!

Well, we have one week finished at the review session. Tom, Branden and Scott have flown back to Michigan and Jim, Joe and Mike flew in. We had a real good week and hopes are this one will be as good. We enjoy all the people here and the time goes by very quickly.
