The Peace Of Wild Things

When despair for the world grows in me and I wake in the night at the least sound in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be, I go and lie down where the wood drake rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds. I come into the peace of the wild things who do not tax their lives with forethought of grief. I come into the presence of still water. And I feel above me the day-blind stars waiting with their light. For a time I rest in the grace of the world, and am free. By Wendell Berry I feel I get my feet on the ground again by doing what he talks about. God gave us nature to enjoy free of charge to find peace and renewal of our souls. Try it. Have a great day.

Winters Grip

The wind has been howling all night. You can hear the groan and grating of the ice. We were clear of the stuff a couple of days ago but the wind changed and we are bound up again. It was a great sleeping night. You snuggle down together and listen to the sounds of Mother Nature snug in your bed. Winter just doesn't want to let go. Have a great day!

A little Less

Jan and Bill came to visit this week-end. They treated us to fish at Silver Creek. We were glad they came and look forward to seeing them again soon. They are good friends and neighbors. We have lost some snow but I hear snowmobiles running on the trails. We have as much snow on the ground now as between Christmas and New Years. These are some pictures of the grandkids when they were here. They are the treasures we hold tucked in our hearts along with their parents. Have a great day!

Calling!

A flock of geese flew over sounding their arrival to the big lake. I was so excited to hear and see them--it is another sign that Spring is trying to break the hold of Old Man Winter. He is a tough old guy and I imagine he will hold on for a time but the hope of new life is in the air.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

What a beautiful day for St. Patrick's Day. It truly feels like spring. We have had some very bad weather on this day in past years. A lot of people are Irish for this one day. Have fun, celebrate but bring yourself home safe. It is supposed to be in the 50's here. We will be outside enjoying it. Had a very nice time with Sandy and Mia yesterday. Enjoy!

WOW!

What a beautiful day! The sun is shining and it is 37 degrees. The town is packed with snowmobilers and everyone is happy. I hope it doesn't get much warmer but just to see the people bringing in some money to our town is wonderful. We needed this shot in the arm and hopefully we can get another week-end or two in before the start of Spring. We have a lot of snow and our groomers are doing a great job of keeping the trail topnotch. Hats off to them for all their hard work. Enjoy the day--I'm headed out the door.

Happy Birthday!

Today is Jessicas 17th birthday! Jenna is my niece and this is her daughter. Her parents and grandparents are proud of the fine woman she is becoming. We all wish her the best birthday and a great year. Love from us all!

-5

We are cold again. -5 this morning just as the new day breaks. Animal tracks are everywhere. Those snowshoes rabbits have at least a six foot span between hops--the fox tracks are following so I'm sure there was a reason for it's hurried departure. I have a lot bigger tracks also and it looks like the coyote was here also. Sandy has heard them gently calling her female dogs to come out at night. It must be a lonely young male looking for a friend. I love the sounds of this part of the state. The waves rolling in, the crunching of the ice as the current moves it. The sounds of the animals and the birds searching for food and just existing to give us a sense of wonder in this busy life. It is a calming and restful thing. Have a great day!

New Snow!

We woke up this morning to at least 6 inches of fresh snow. The sky turned blue this afternoon and it is a sight to behold. The people heading in to town for snowmobiling are very happy and we need them here. Every week-end we get now is a gift. This is the first time we have had to do the snow in over a week. It was a great day to be outside. The evening is coming and another work week is almost done. Do something fun this week-end. Be good to yourself.

March Storm

Where is the ice!

We got up this morning and the lake is open. The ice has moved, we think, toward Canadian shores due to the high winds coming out of the east-south east. Folks on the Lake Michigan shore have huge mounds of ice pushing in shore to their homes. You can see video of this on CNN.com. It is very cold and the wind and snow are causing white outs at times. It is a good day to stay inside and watch out the window. What will the afternoon bring? Guess we will watch and see. Good Day!

Good Day for Walking

It was a very pretty day. We took a walk to town and just wandered around enjoying the day. There were some snowmobilers but a lot have gone home. The street was clear of snow but there was a lot of ice in driveways and parking lots. We are going to have a nice day tomorrow so we will be outside enjoying it while it's here. Get a good nights rest.

Where is everyone?

The blogs are sitting neglected and everyone is on facebook. Miss you.

Good day!

We had a real nice day today. It was 40 degrees and the sun came out in the afternoon. Sandy took us with her when she went to the Soo. We really enjoyed the ride and the company. We looked around in the stores and did some shopping. The stores were full of people. I think everyone was out enjoying temperature above the -degrees. I hear my daughter is grilling and enjoying 75 degrees in Virginia. The other kids are getting rain downstate but that is better than snow. It is supposed to get cold and snow toward the middle of the week but this was a nice break. Hope we have some stars tonight. Sleep well.

Damp

It is a hazy morning. We got some rain last night but not a lot. We have a lot of snow and people were out riding. 34 degrees this morning with a high expected of 38. It is still winter for us so I hope it cools down and everyone can use their snow machines at least till April. We will be outside alot if it is this warm. Enjoy life--you only go around once!

Warmer

Tracks all over the yard. Everything was out last night. I had to shut off the motion light because it was going off all the time waking me up. I saw the fox, coyote and raccoon. The eagle was checking out the snow mounds and birds are everywhere. Everything is happy for the warm up. We are going to spend a good deal of time outside today. The sunrise was not as pretty due to clouds but I appreciate every one. The ice breakers are starting to open up the lake as the shipping season starts it about 2o days. You can hear what sounds like gun shots when the ice breaks under the ship. I love to see them out on the lake. It must be something to be out there doing that job. Have a good day and make someone else smile, it will make your day better.

Happy Birthday Denny!!

Today is my oldest sons 40th birthday. He has a lot of his Dads mannerisms. He is a quiet, thoughtful man who loves his family. Matt is the apple of his eye. We love you Denny and are very proud of the man you grew to be. Have a great day!

Monday, March 2, 2009

Wow!

I thought it was cold the other morning but we are reading -23.4 now. I don't think anything was moving last night. The sunrise looks like it's going to be beautiful. The sky is getting a salmon color and pinks and purples are on the fringes. Sandy is going with us today to take back the town Christmas decorations and do a little shopping. It should be a fun day. I hope the truck starts or we won't be going anywhere. I am curious to see if the temperature drops a little more by sunrise as I noticed it seems to..This has been one cold snowy winter! Just another day in Paradise. Enjoy the day! Stay warm.

Turning into trolls!

The guys are on their way back and will be trolls again. We are already looking forward to the next visit. They went to the casino and all broke even. They went to Willabees for fish and brought me a plate home. I have some pictures of their familys. The two little ones are Gregs Grandbabys--He is very proud of them. Have a great day!
